when I import avi only the first minute and a half is visible, rest is blank

naedsukram wrote on 1/8/2015, 11:50 PM

I'm using gopro footage converted inside the gopro studio app, then trying to import avi into Magix movie edit pro 14. Movie edit pro wont let me import the raw gopro footage, and as I said, only the first minute and a half of the avi footage can be seen inside Magix. I'm using windows 7. Any help much appreciated.

Hi

. . . . Movie edit pro wont let me import the raw gopro footage . . . .

That is probably because you are recording in one of the HD resolutions and mp4 format which MEP14 does not support.

Ideally you should updte your MEP to a newer version which supports HD MP4.

Try converting the HD video to MPG instead of AVI.

Thanks for the reply, I did look for latest update but there were none. Maybe you mean buy the latest version all over again, which I'd rather avoid. I don't understand why media player has no trouble playing the converted avi file or the raw MP4 file, but MEP14 can't even see the whole file beyond 1:30 ? I have the GoPro Hero 4 and the default video is full res 1920 x 1080  23.97fps.

"Maybe you mean buy the latest version all over again, which I'd rather avoid."

I'm puzzled by that, as the latest version is MEP 2015. MEP 14 is about 7 years old. Are you sure you have that, not MEP 2014? Or maybe you just mean you don't want to have to re-install all over again, which is undestandable?

Anyway, that aside, IMO it sounds like a corrupted GoPro file problem. Have you successfully used your GoPro output files with MEP before? I'd suggest you post in the GoPro forum. There are also apparently a lot of GoPro 'repair' tools around, although the few recommended programs I came across during a brief search were not free.

Meanwhile, if you can upload a typical small file to a host (I use Dropbox) we might be able to try it.

FWIW, to illustrate the inconsistencies that can arise, I'm currently having problems with some of the files from my recently purchased CUBE. Most of these are accepted by MEP 2014 but a few fail completely. And MEP 2013 gives different results on the same files.

Thanks Terry,

I'm not even sure where the reply button is here.

I'm using MEP 14 plus, I had trouble with other cameras at first, but then it was sorted through some new Magix MP4 codecs I was sent a few years back. I have not successfully used 'gopro' footage with MEP yet, I have been using 'GoPro Studio' which is horrible to use, but at least I can add an audio, then it spits out my video for upload to you tube.

My mate uses imovie which runs perfectly with gopro footage, and he uses faster frame rates, runs smooth as silk, but I don't own a mac. I'm convinced it's a codec issue, and I will check your links...let u know if I'm successful.

btw, the last video I tried to import into MEP was from gopro recorded at 60fps and it went blank at the 30sec mark, still had audio, but no picture.

Hi

Correction, and apologies,  to my previous post (having dug out my MEP14 box) to check my memory.

MEP 14 does support HD - I thought MEP15 was the first version to support HD.

@ naedsukram

Are you still using the same computer as in your previous post from 2008 ?

Unless you need to export to HD or create BD discs, then try converting the HD video to  MPG and import.

Hi John,

Yes same laptop, MEP still runs slow and stutters, but my movie editing needs are very basic, I have one video, and a separate audio feed, usually cut the front and back, add a title for my youtube channel, job done.

I would love to play around with video a lot more, but my laptop cpu wont allow.

I have previously been exporting as 720 .mov but gopro will do full HD so I'd like to export that res. My older sony camera uses same footage type H.264 as gopro, and MEP imports and converts sony footage, not gopro. Maybe it's the 1080 setting, or a different codec required? I have just downloaded (as I type) an updated version of the 'gopro studio' app, so maybe there will be some extra options added.

btw John, can u recommend a good video convertor to convert to MPG.

New gopro studio looks exactly the same...
