Why does my timeline mode look weird?!? Need help ASAP please!

JoMama wrote on 2/6/2022, 11:10 AM

My timeline mode looks weird and I can't turn it back to how it was before.

It's not that i'm in storyboard mode or sceneoverview mode.

I don't have what Magix calls "Handles" anymore. (The white adjustive points on each side of the piece of footage)

I can't adjust the brightness of the footage either. I can only see the file-name of the footage I'm working, with and what color it is.

Normally you can see the image being dissplayed in the timeline footage along with the soundwaves in the audio files and so on.

I have no idea if I accidentally pressed a button to make it like this or if this is a new update or what it could possibly be, but hopefully someone has had the same "problem" as I do cause' I have no idea how to revert it back to normal timeline mode.

And for some annoying reason this website is not letting me upload my damn picture to my post here.

Everything is going wrong right now, and I have to get this problem fixed before wednesday next week, please help me!

I'll leave my discord and email here if you can help me fix it.

@JoMama Hi, if you can't upload picture using the arrow button next to the smiley on a new comment, you could drag the pics onto Google Drive, making sharing available to anyone with the link, copy the link & post the link here using the chain at the top of a new comment.

Which program , Which version?

If it's Movie Edit Pro 2022 (or a few versions back), then maybe try pressing F9 to reset to Window arrangement.

@JoMama

Hi

. . . .  this website is not letting me upload my picture . . . .

There appears to be an issue with the media server that handles all media for the forum.

From your description it sounds like Movie Edit Pro (MEP) has got into an inconsistent state try the following:

Select Window, Windows arrangement, Standard - this should rest the display

If that fails

Select File, Settings, Reset program settings to default

If that fails

  1. With MEP closed, using File Explorer, in the filepath location bar to the left of the search box, type

%appdata%\MAGIX\ and press the Enter key

  2. Look for the folder Videodeluxenn_version  where nn = two digits and version = nothing, Plus or Premium and open it

  3. delete the file Videodeluxe.ini

  4. Start MEP.

This should fix the issue.

Note: this will reset any custom settings you have made in MEP.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. For whatever reason the project has either corrupted or been saved after an accidental deletion of some material or movement of a track position or use of the wrong mouse mode.

Your best bet is to double click on one of the BAK files but it may not be the highest numbered BAK file you need.

You may lose the last alteration you made before things went wrong. If you left the program open for too long after the problem occurred then none of the BAK files may work due to the frequency of new ones being generated but is worth a try.

@JoMama

The backup files actually have the extension MV_ and should be in the same folder as your MVP.

You can open them from within MEP: File>Load Backup Project and pick the latest one, timewise (by default, MEP saves 10 backup files, named 0 to 9 and replaces the earliest one when the next autoback occurs, so as Ray alludes to, BAK1.MV_ could be more recent than BAK9.MV_ ).

If you can't see your MV_ files for that project, click on the "Search for Backup" button and browse to the folder that contains your MVP (project) file. The backup files (MV_) should be there.

Alternatively, you can simply close MEP then use Windows Explorer to find the MV_ files and double-click to open in MEP.

Hi,

It would have helped if you had given us full screen shots, not just parts and then different parts of the timeline and different zoom factors.

To me, it doesn't look like the same project at all. I don't understand how come the volume curves are no longer there, the colours are different, there is audio on track 2 and more.

I see that you have 2 MVP files with almost the same name in the last screen shot. The first one has Nyest in brackets. Are you sure that you are using the same project file?

Hi

Assuming you are showing the Demo project as an example of what the timeline used to look like, your second image of your project is showing that you have zoomed in on the timeline - see image below where the zoom / visible section of the timeline indicator is much shorter than the demo project (yellow arrow).

Use either of the indicated controls (red arrows) to return to viewing the full timeline.

Alright so, the old problem has now been "resolved" (Not really) but I managed to finish up my project with a somewhat expected outcome.

And that was when i encountered a brand new problem.

I can't even export my movie as an MPEG-4.

I can't save my movie file onto my computer. Not properly anyways.

All of the times where I've tried and it did succeed, The video just stopped half way through exporting the movie. And left me with a file that contained 1/3 of my product.

At this point I'd honestly go as far as to just request a call with somebody that might be able to help Just in order to receive direct guidance on what to do with it all.

I've been struggling with this for about 3-4 hours and I really just want to get this over with.

But thank you all for your help so far.

Hi

In addition to @Former users comment, does the disc drive you are exporting to have enough free space to accommodate the video, which export preset are you using, and did you change any of the export parameters - screenshots would help.

I for some reason can't send a picture my pc contents even though I could send what John asked for.

Intel (R) Core(TM) i5-7500 CPU 3.40GHz

Intel(R) HD Graphics 630

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 3GB

@johnebaker I export it in my second drive which has around 900 GB space I think.

@browj2 I'm not sure what that means or does, so no

I've tried with and without editing the export settings. And it's always one of these 2 outcomes everytime.

1. After pressing "ok" The movie exports literally 1 cm worth of blue bar and then it just cuts off, and saves those 5 seconds worth of footage on my computer which it did export.

2. It get's about half way into the exporting, then it cuts off again and saves those 2 minutes worth of movie on my PC.

(My project is about 5 minutes long)

I've somehow succesfully managed to export it all as a MPG file... So now I have the audio alone. Which is not super useful.

Are there any other visual video file-formats i could try exporting it as?

Also another question. Can you screen record Magix with another program, or does it have anti-pirate blocking stuff?

JoMama wrote on 2/9/2022, 4:29 PM

(Update)

Succesfully managed to export about 7/8ths of the project into an MP4 before it cuts off as usual. But even when I'm lucky and things appear to start going my way, the footage I've exported to my pc turns out incredebly laggy and out of synch with the sound.

So in short even if I did manage to export all 5 mintes and xx seconds of movie to my PC succesfully, the video would still be terrible quality.

It's 1:32 AM where I live...

I'm so doomed omg...

I tried exporting my movie one more time though but it still cut off.

And I don't know why there's no stereo-3D box on my Magix.

When I boot up Magix, it it shows the "Magix Movie edit pro 2022" screen with the little kid and the bubbles.

Don't know if that's useful information or not.

@JoMama

Hi,

@browj2 I'm not sure what that means or does, so no

This tells me that you're a new user. Look at your screen shot of the export interface. There is a selection for "Export selected range only," It is not checked.

I don't see anything wrong with the timeline that you show in your document. You show the demo project and then your project. They are not the same because you haven't done many or any of the same things that were done in the demo project, like putting video/audio on separate tracks and adding volume curves with adjustments.

You were asked for information but you have supplied very little. Please answer the following:

  1. I see gaps in your timeline; why? Export does not like gaps in the timeline.
  2. What does it say at the top left of the program - Movie Edit Pro, Movie Edit Pro Plus or Movie Edit Pro Premium. If it doesn't show Plus or Premium, you have the basic version.
  3. Go to Help in the top menu, About, and tell us which version you have. The current version is 21.0.1.119.
  4. Post a screen shot of the entire interface, not just parts. Put the playback marker somewhere where you have objects on 3 or 4 tracks.
  5. When you put the mouse over an object, do the handles show up? They are not there until you put the mouse over them.
  6. Increase the height of track 1 by clicking on the Maximize button in the track header. Give us a screen shot of the timeline.
  7. Do your video clips have sound? When you playback, do you hear the sound from the video objects on the various tracks?
  8. Give us a screen shot of the Video/Audio tab under Program Settings.

@JoMama

Just for troubleshooting, try setting the Hardware Accel all to the CPU and see how your export goes. If that doesn't work out, try the Microsoft Warp device if you have it in the list.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.
