Why doesn't my HEVC on MEP 2019+ no longer work?

mojoaudioguru wrote on 8/11/2019, 4:25 PM

Everything was working fine, before. I was encoding with the HEVC codec without any issues. Today, I get the "An error has occurred..." warning pop-up. Why? I haven't changed anything. All the settings are default. And, it was working fine, the last time I used it, about a week ago. I've reset the program to default, and no change. Anyone know what's happening? Has a recent Windows / Microsoft update caused this?

Windows 10 Pro, i7-7700K Kaby Lake CPU, (Overclocked to 4.7 GHz - liquid cooled), 16 Gig DDR4 RAM, NVidia GTX 1050Ti SC with 4 gig DDR5 RAM.

Hi.

It's possible the windows update did something to your PC. There has been more complaints than usual about the last one from people with older machines. I find with every Windows update my sound setting change but that is as bad as it has ever got for me.

Hi

Have you tried doing a 'full' restart of the computer, to reload all the drivers etc and any pending updates that have installed but not completed?

@CubeAce

In your case you have been very lucky. I have had a variety of issues with the last 2/3 updates with programs being reset (registry changes?) and the 'new apps'.

Thank you, gents. But this post was from 3 years ago. I took care of that within days of posting that query. However, I did post one yesterday, asking why does MEP2022+ black out or fade the timeline bars in and out?

@mojoaudioguru

This was the post that popped up. Did not see the other inquiry.

That will happen if you change program settings while a project is loaded.

You need to check your graphics settings to find a combination that works for you but please follow the advice I gave you above. ( I just noticed this was the same post)

Also after 22 forum posts please put your complete computer specs in your signature as well as windows and and any current graphics driver versions you are using. It doesn't help us to guess your problems and gets tiresome looking at previous forum posts to look them up.

Understood. But inserting all that information, over and over after doing so, ever since this forum began, it gets tiresome. There should be an addition to one's profile, that includes all that info, and comes up with our avatars, so that we don't always have to post that. But, for the record:

Windows 10 Pro, (Latest 2021 edition) Kaby Lake i7-7700K CPU, overclocked to 4.7 GHz, (Intel HD 630 GPU - driver, current version), NVidia GTX 1050Ti SC 4 gig DDR5, (Current driver version), 24 Gig DDR4 RAM, MEP 2022+ (Current version 21.0.1.85) However, I had to revert to MEP 2021+ because without seeing what I am editing in the timeline, I cannot edit. I changed nothing in the way of resolution settings, and when I reverted to MEP 2021+ there were no issues. It works perfectly. I do have a 48" 4K LED screen, (Which 2022+ should automatically adapt to, if it's been properly programmed to do so), and two additional 22" LED screens that I use as companion editing screens. (At my age, my eyes aren't as sharp as they were when I first started editing, 25 years ago. So, every bit helps) Shouldn't Magix be making some allotments to ever changing and updating screen resolution technologies, for every subsequent released version? In the last few yearly updates, I've always run into problems, for whatever reason. To the chagrin of everyone who keeps telling me that my computer is either outdated, under powered, or I have the wrong GPU, or whatever else I'm jumped upon for. Not everyone can update their hardware or computers at the drop of a hat. In any case, I'll check and adjust the resolution capabilities of MEP 2022+, in order to see if that takes care of the issue. Thank you.

OK.

Try this.

Place the main program on the monitor powered by the nvidia card. Place other monitors on the Intel graphics chip and put the settings as follows. Try just two monitors to begin with. It could be the third monitor causing problems and if you have have two monitors attached to the nvidia card make sure you set it up to stretch across two screens although that may stress it out more. If you have the 4K screen running on the Intel chip because you need two graphics outputs to connect to the two other monitors then you won't get the use of the nvidia card in the program as far as I can see.

That is working fine at my end.

Ray.

My 4K 48" LED is connected to the main HDMI output of the NVidia card. The 22" monitor on the left is also connected to the NVidia's mini HDMI. The 3rd monitor above the first two, is connected to the Intel HD 630. I've never had any issues with that setup. I have the GTX 1050Ti SC listed on IMPORT and PROCESSING, whilst the Intel GPU is set in EXPORT. Not sure what the deal is with MEP 2021+, because it was just automatic. With MEP 2022+ it gives you the choice, and I must say, the very first 2 hour Blu-ray that I rendered, (AVCHD content in both 2K and 4K), took less than real time. Which was rather nice. (Reminded me of the old CUDA Core days) But, I get frustrated when a simple upgrade has you jumping thru rolling donuts just to get simple crap done, without having to change settings in the new version. I'm still going to edit this last clip in MEP 2021+ until it's done. Then starting my next project on MEP 2022+, once all this headache has been sorted out. Thank you for your consideration.
