Why has recording stopped working on my MMM Mx premium software?

I have Magix MM Mx Premium. I also bought a M-audio fast track pro as a audio interface to record my voice and my bass guitar and was hoping I could record some demos along with intruments from the sound pool or the 2000 sound package. Ofcourse I tested it by doing a short 30 sec jam with my bass guitar and also put a little voice track on it. After making a entrire song with the magix sound pools I wanted to add my voice over the music and all went well for a little while. After listenening to it a few times I dediced I wanted to re-record some parts and thats when I started having the problems. It wouldn't record anymore! I set it up the exaxct same way I did with the previous recording but it wouldn't work! I have windows XP Professional on a Dell computer and I checked all the specs before I made the purchase of magix or the fast track pro. I first was sucessful recording with waive driver, fast track pro and after it quit recording I started trying them all  from SB Live! 24 bit, soundmax, and asio drivers but nothing is working no more. When I click on record the recording starts but no monitoring sound and the track I'm trying to record on will go about 3 inches and stop. Also I get errors that say Cannot close waveform device for recording. The specified device handle is invalid OR Cannot DLL wavelnPrepareHeader Device #0. Dont know what any of that means or where to possibly look to fix it.

If you are useing an audio soundcard then you need to go into preferences and set up asio driver, do not choose wave driver or direct sound driver. then in the output device menu click it and choose the name of your audio soundcard. if you are useing a usb console, then make sure you have the output settings correct. it should have a 2track usb button, engage that and make sure the main mix selector on your console is turned off along with 2track usb to main mix. you just want to channel the sound thru usb and not analog out to monitors. It should solve your problem. If youre getting that wave driver error code, then that is a definite sign that you have the primary driver setting in the program set to wave. If you need more help and a little more info about your setup, i can help you figure this out.  Sometimes my settings change themselves and i have to reset the drivers. My names Fred. peace buddy

Hi Fred and thanks for your help. Well, I've tried what you suggested and I'm still at square one! I'm new at this so can you tell me what an sound card is? I downloaded an Asio driver, but I'm still not getting anywhere.  In program setting menu I've selected asio driver and I'm getting play back but it wont record. I went through the instuctions of my usb interface (fast track pro) to make sure I was using it correctly. I noticed that the asio drivers dont show up in the sounds and audio devices properties in XP but the fast track pro does when I connect it to the computer. Since I downloaded the asio drivers should'nt they show up under that heading? Could that be whats causing all the trouble and if it is how do I get it to show up in sound playback or sound recording? Dont know what is happening. It was working good at first but now it just stopped and I'm having all this trouble. Spent 4 hours Sunday trying to figure it out and 2 1/2 hours today after work! This is getting very frustrating. It should'nt be this kind of confusion on a program that claims to be so simple to operate. You say sometimes the settings change themselves, but what if you change them back and it still don't work? If you have more answers I sure could use them....Thanks Norm
