Why isn't Magix movie pro pro plus copying media to project folder?

Former user wrote on 7/1/2020, 9:25 PM

Hi, even tho i tick the box Copy media to project folder the media doesn't get copied to the project folder & it dumps all the temp & magix sound files in the orig media's folder, I like it to copy the media to the project folder because that way it keeps the orig folder tidy & i have little chance of deleting something i didn't intend to, I just reinstalled Magix movie pro plus as i couldn't find any way of repairing the program, I wish i had't, reinstalling it hasn't fixed this problem & i've spent all night just getting magix back to how it was before, this not copying has been going on for a while so i just manually copy the files to the project folder before importing into the timeline but it does frustrate me that this feature no longer works. I've renewed my update service each yr.

Can anyone tell me why.? Thanks

Hi,

I never do that as I prefer to do it at the end of the project, adding only objects that actually stay, not ones that I've deleted from the timeline. As well, I use the main Project folder as per the image below, but I have sub-folders for categories. I only keep the project file, the .mvp file (and automatic backups) in the subfolders.

That said, I think that you have to change the location of the Projects in the screen below (Program Settings) for the feature to work. Try it to see if that helps. I've never tried it.

Hmmm. One other idea after looking at your video again. Did you save the project first? If not, the files may not know where to go other than to the default folder. Try that before importing anything onto the timeline. The MVP file should also show up in your project folder and it wasn't there.

Hi Gid.

The folder path does have to be entered for a new project and the settings box set up before working on a project as John stated. Only the top two boxes are important for that.

Projects for the files and Exports for where to send the final render/s.

This should then show up in your movie settings box under path.

I have never used your drag and drop method but always used the file import from within the Magix Editor. You should then get a conformation as to whether you want to copy the clips of just import them. I think your method is just importing them to the timeline and not copying.

That is the view of one of my project folders.

Ray.

Hi all

Edited:

. . . . The folder path does have to be entered for a new project and the settings box set up before working on a project as John stated. . . . .

There is a simpler method with out changing the Project settings - when saving the project before adding media specify a new folder in the Save as dialog, then save the project.

Importing the media then works.

However I see, IMHO, a more serious issue in your video - it looks like you are saving everything on your Desktop - this is not recommended - any documents, projects, media etc are at risk of being lost and not being backed up if you have scheduled backups to another drive or storage device..

They should be inside the Documents folder which is a protected folder safe from Windows updates which may clear remove anything that is not a shortcut.

There is also a small risk that the full file path length exceeds the number of allowable characters if you are using long file names, folder names and have many folders.

Hi, thanks I'm off to work so will pick this up later but I've resolved this, I've used Magix Movie since 2010, i have over 300 vids on Youtube & always had my settings pretty much the way it shows in the vid, all files were copied to the project folder & therefore magix temp files went there whether the project folder was on the desktop or not, & whether i drag & dropped or used Magix import from within the program to put the files on the timeline, when i said i had to set up Magix again after reinstalling, one of the things i did/do is set the folder path in Settings-Program-Folder 👍

I resolved this by the drop down tab Settings-Reset program settings to default, that gave me this box back, at some point it must have been ticked Import only as Ray says & the Do not show this again must have been ticked, once this is done there is no way to change it back once these settings have been made without Resetting program settings to default, I thought there was a way of reinstating this box but couldn't find it, & i don't know why it didn't reset to default when i reinstalled Magix movie, It must have re-used settings i had already set-up,

Thankyou everyone for your replies,

Hi

There is a way of resetting the 'do not show' dialogs again - Programs Settings, System tab, Reactivate dialogs button.

Thanks John 😁 I'll have a look when home, i knew there was a box to do that somewhere 🙃, It's a bit contradictive having the option twice - when you create a new project & it has that box ticked 'Copy media to project folder', & then there's that dialog box 'Import only or copy media' that can get hidden by ticking the box 'Do not show this again' & overwrites the option on create new project 'Copy Media' option, , 😒
