Write permission problems

sensfan wrote on 1/26/2015, 7:17 AM

I have Movie Edit Pro 17 and have been using it successfully until I bought a Sony HD movie camera.  The file format is .MTX, but I like having a date stamp on it. So I have software that does this. After date stamping, the files are now .wmv. When I drag the files into the movie software, I get this message:

The file  format of C\Users\Marie\Videos\DVD49\Stamped\.001.wmv cannot be read.
Please make sure that the drive is not full or write-protected.

If you do not have authorization to write or read from this path, please contact the administrator.

I tried emailing Magix, but my software (despite being registered) does not show up, so I cannot get to the email page. I also had problems with the camera being discovered with the software. Last time I used to just click on the option and the camera would be discovered. Then I would play the video from the mini DV tape and it would be captured. This time, I dragged it into a folder.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

That should be .MTS not .MTX.

Hi

What are you are using to rename the files to date format?  Whatever it is is also set to change the file extension.

The error message is because the program is expcting a wmv format at it is not finding it - there should be nothing wrong with the MEP or file permissions..

I am using this: http://dts8888.com/vATS/vats.htm

It changes the name automatically. Magix told me to either move the file outside of the folder or check the Codec permissions. I'm not sure how to check Codec permissions. They say the Codec for this type of video may not be activated. I do not know how to do this.

I moved the file outside of the folder and still get the same error message.

I found this video, but it's not very useful as I can't see what they are doing.

I uninstalled my product and then reinstalled it. I went to Help > Update Codecs > Update MPEG-4 codecs. I still get the same error message when I attempt to copy the .wmv files into Movie Edit Pro. This is very frustrating. Thank you for anticpated help. :)

Hi

Reinstalling the software will not fix this problem - if you read the Limitations section on the page you supplied the link to you will see it clearly states:-

Visual AVCHD Time Stamp (vATS) generates AVCHD compatible format, it is not recognized by all video editing software

and lists the programs that do support it - MEP is not one of them and  that is the problem.

Your only option is not to use the converter software which is producing incompatible video files.

If you are wanting to just rename the video files so that they are in date format then you need to use a program like Advanced Renamer.

I use this program regularly and you can set it up to batch rename the files using the date the file was created or modified.

Thanks for your help. I downloaded Advanced Renamer. Do you mean I can take my .wmv files back to .mts, except this time they will have the date? If so, I'm trying to figure out how to do that. So far, I have been able to renmae a file, but it just has mts in the name. The .wmv extension remains.  Does this software do what I hope it can?

sensfan wrote on 1/28/2015, 10:21 AM

After all this, the vATS software has a preference to change the file output to .mts. Now everything is working. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my inquiry.
