Óh Gente da Minha Terra

Oh Gente da Minha Terra

This is a cover of a Portuguese Fado, originally sung by Mariza.

For those who are not familiar with, Fado is a very unique traditional Portuguese style of music.

Manuel Rodrigues brought me the idea of that song, with him in the classical guitar, and challenged me to do the bass for it, I’ve loved the idea, later on, Carlos Mercier join us making the  voice melody with his Amarantina guitar ( a Portuguese guitar from the region of Amarante, in the north of Portugal).

The chorus of this song says something like:
Oh people of my land
Now I’ve understood
This sadness that I bring
It was from you that I received.

This is a portrait of the Portuguese people, and in these darkness times that Europe is going through, specially poor country’s like my own, this cover pretends to be a shout of revolt, a teardrop in our pride as a nation.

The original song can and should be heard in youtube.

Manuel Rodrigues – Classical Guitar
Carlos Mercier – Amarantina Guitar
Emanuel Correia – Acoustic Bass

Hope you like it!

Hi Emanuel:

Yes, I like it!   I have always like the quiet sounds of stringed instruments (especially Latin-flavored), minus the pulsating thump, thump of a rhythm section.

You guys play quite well together.  Hopefully, you will offer more pieces in the near future.

Believe it or not - this is the first fado I ever heard.

I red that fado is a sad kind of music. But I can hear a lot of feelings an emotions here. I realy like this kind of music. The amarantina guitar makes me curious. Sounds very interessting. And the song at all is wonderfull.

Maybe portugal is a poor country. But that's just money!  A country filled with such lovely people like you an your friends can surfive everithing.  Stay proud! There will always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Take care, Ori.
