This is quite a review and thank you. I really did enjoy my visit the the Greenwich observatory that has much history in the development of time pieces for navigation and time keeping. It was a year ago that I heard 'Big Ben' while I was in London. I hope I got the melody right as much was going on at the time when I heard the big clock chime. I think there are at least a few chime melodies used by the big public clocks and the grandfather clocks. I have been around long enough to remember the mechanical clocks at home, such as the windable alarm clock with the two bells on the top. My family even had a cuckoo clock. I may remember an uncle of mine when we visited him telling me that the ticks of his mechanical alarm clock kept his dog company when he was away.

I remember that after awhile I stopped noticing the ticking sound but when the clock stopped and needed rewinding I would certainly get the sense that something was missing. I have a maritime clock in my music studio that helps me keep a useful schedule.
