25p from digicam to export 50p or 50i ??

Ahowi wrote on 6/28/2014, 9:14 AM

My video takes from my digital camera are 25p, when looking on PC, that flickers. In movies we have 24p but the frames are shown twice giving something like 50p to avoid flickering. The takes are 1920x1080 25p, when exporting to 720p, I get 50p or 100p, as my VLC codec information tells me. The videos are rather smooth and nice. How can I do thar with 1920x1080? (Magix VDL premium deluxe + Mercalli).

Hi

There should be an MPEG4 export preset "AVCHD Transport stream 1920x1080 50P (HQ)" that you could try.

I have a new Laptop, Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series. I tried to use My MAGIX (Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus HD) on my new computer. Would not see or locate the burner to make a DVD. I downloaded the up grade, and now I can burn a DVD, But it Flickers. I uses a 32GB SDHC card from my camera to my computer. Should I delete the old software? How can I fix my issue?

Hi

. . . . I uses a 32GB SDHC card from my camera to my computer. . . . .

Can you explain more what you mean by this?

. . . . Should I delete the old software? . . .

This has no effect on the playback issue - please state which upgrade version of MEP you are using as found under Help, About . . . and whether it is the Basic, Plus or Premium version.

You can delete the old software if you wish, none of the features in it are usable in MEP 2018 assuming that is the version you upgraded to.

We also need more information:

  • Computer specification - processor make/model, graphics card or chipset make/model, audio card or chipset make/model, RAM,  hard drive configuration and sizes?
  • Windows version and is it up to date?  Press and hold down the Windows key and the R key - in the dialog that opens type in winver and press enter.
  • Software full name and version number - as found under Help, About . . .

Sorry if I seem a little unprofessional.

Like I said, this is a new Dell computer with Windows 10, Not only I am trying to learn Windows10, I am trying to learn as much about my new software from MAGIX.

This is the Magix software I deleted (Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus HD)

Hi Paul

As you can see I have edited your reply for more clarity - Scenestealer also removed your serial number - please do not post your serial number, purchase order numbers or any confidential information.

You can delete the old software, none of the features in it are usable in MEP 2018.

From the specification of your laptop, I assume it is a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 - is this correct?

. . . . I transfer my LX series SD card to my computer and upload the file to Magix . . . .

Do you copy the files from the SD card onto the laptop or use them directly from the SD card in Movie Edit Pro?

Hello 😀 Mr. Baker, Had trouble getting on to Magix sight earlier today. It is ok now. Thank you for taking care my stupid confidential information. I know it would have cost me. I will try to answer your questions. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series Notebook. The model number is 5575. I have been transferring my SD card from my camera🎥 to my Laptop 💻. From my SD card while in my Laptop, I transfer my movie data from the SD card directly to the Magix Movie Edit Pro. It seems to work well with my other Magix Edit Pro 17 Plus, and of course I was using Windows7 Professional. Thank you for putting up with an Old Man.

P.S. I wish I could put a copy of my Magix Movie Edit Pro, on a CD or DVD.

@Paul-S

Hi

The issue may be due to lack of Hardware Acceleration (HWA), although, with the integrated graphics chipset in AMD Vega 8 you may have HWA available, however it is not turned on.

Playback can be improved using the following settings:

  1. In the project settings (E key) turn on Automatically create proxy files

Note: This will create lower resolution and less compressed files which can take a significant amount of disc space, however they require less computer power to playback.

  2. Right click the lightning symbol (it should be blue) bottom right of the Preview monitor and check that Reduce resolution and Reduce frame rate are checked.

Note: the reduce resolution option does make the preview monitor image more grainy however this does not affect the export of the video.

  3. In the program settings (Y key) Import/export tab, check the options Hardware acceleration for playback if possible and Hardware acceleration for export if possible.

  4. Try exporting a short project to a mp4 video file, during the exporting to a video file you should see the words Hardware encoding (or possibly QuickSync) in the export progress dialog top bar as shown below

In item 4 if you only see 'Mixing down' and the HWA options in item 3 above are turned on, and you get no message that HWA has been turned off, there may be no Hardware Acceleration (HWA) available - this helps with smoother playback and also faster exporting to some video file formats.

Hi

Just to be clear Paul, your issue is with jerking when you play the DVD on a DVD player, once you have burned it - yes? If so then the suggestions made by John about hardware acceleration probably wont help.

I do not think there is any chance of the AMD Ryzen being able to enable hardware encoding as in John's point 4) but it should still help with hardware accelerated preview (playback) performance when playing the timeline in MEP = Movie Edit Pro (sorry you have posted in the VPX =Video Pro X part of the forum so I assumed you were using VPX), as in John's point 3).

Jerking in a burned DVD is usually associated with a mismatch of the export settings to the original camera files characteristics hence the request to analyse the files with Media Info utility.

Bear in mind that progressive ie 30P video will look slightly jerky when there is much horizontal camera movement present, compared to traditional 30fps interlaced video.

There seems to be a contradiction in the frame rate of the files from the camera. You said in your first post that the takes from the camera were 25p, whereas in your last post you stated that they are 30p. If you are filming in 30p and editing/exporting at 25p, then this could be where your problems are coming from. 25fps is a European PAL format and 30fps is a US NTSC format.

@Paul-S apologies for asking for more clarification, however we would like to identify the solution so it can be marked for future users who may have the same issue - can you clarify this sentence please

. . . . I downloaded the up grade, and now I can burn a DVD, But it Flickers. . . . .

Is it the DVD playback in a DVD player that is jerky, or playing the timeline in MEP?

If the DVD is the jerkiness a small judder on pans or where an object or person is moving across the screen, or a definite pause in the playback?

The Jerkiness is in the Time line MEP, and of course if you think the jerkiness will go away if you burn a DVD, it does not. So I believe the problem is when you transfer your video from your camera's SD, card to your time line, at this time it becomes very Jerky. So I am saying while my video is in the Time line and you do a proof video playback, and at this time is when it has a lot of Jerkiness, still while in the time line. You can not watch the video for very long, or you would get a head ache. I do not know how to correct this issue. Let me know if this will help you, help me?

johnebaker wrote on 7/18/2018, 4:47 PM

@Paul-S

Thanks for confirming that it is playback on the timeline.

However from the sentence:

. . . .I believe the problem is when you transfer your video from your camera's SD, card to your time line . . . .

This would suggest you are importing/working directly from the SD card onto the timeline, if so then that is another likely cause of playback jerkiness.

If this is correct ,and assuming you are plugging the SD card into the computer or a USB card reader, then this is not the best method of working for two reasons:

  1. The speed at which video can be read from the SD card is slower than it would be if the video was being imported from the computer hard drive into Movie Edit Pro.

  2. When the card is reformatted/wiped you will no longer be able to go back to the project and re-edit it should you need to.

To improve the playback performance copy the video files from the SD card to the computer hard drive, remove the SD card, then import the video from the hard drive into Movie Edit Pro, also check the items I listed above to maximise smoothness of playback.

Too many Codes to Activate a portion of the software, but if you don't have a code you need to buy it. If you need help you have to buy a coupon. If I had known this I would have bought another software that was user friendly.

Re you question about the Main Concept Codec - this is an optional encoder you can purchase but it is unnecessary for all tasks, and unlikely to have any bearing on your current problem of "jerking".

So please confirm - now that you are accessing the files in the timeline from your internal hard disk (with the SD card disconnected), whether the jerking you see during preview of the timeline is exactly the same as you see on the DVD during playback?
