Not really, but you could do a thorough uninstall and reload the program from the servers. That way you should start with an earlier version. Then it is a case of stopping MEP from updating. Equally it could be any one of the newer Windows updates that have caused this so may still not work.
Nah, was definitely the Magix update during today.
Why don't developers test themselves before releasing new updates? E.g. record 10 min with Bandicam (it's even free) in Xvid codec, then start to cut. Do 50 cuts and fade them together, do some other 20 cuts and you notice Magix hanging/dying... and then fix it. God d.it :))
I'm sure they do test as much as they can but think of the amount of variation in individuals using a program and the amount of variation in system specs. This type of thing should be reported directly to Magix rather than here if you are sure it's a coding problem. They do look at queries that go through the support section rather than here on the user forums and try to correct anything that comes to light. They may not be aware of this problem.

Please upload a MediaIndfo analysis - from the Text view in MediaInfo - of one of the AVI's that shows this issue?
Also read this topic and provide details of your computer system and Windows version as detailed in the linked to topic - putting them in your Signature for future reference in case of issues would also help.
Why are you using the AVI - XVid codec combination ?
Does the same issue occur if you use a MP4 and h.264 codec?

Why are you using the AVI - XVid codec combination ?
Because it comes with Bandicam and is lossless (if set to CBR 100).
Does the same issue occur if you use a MP4 and h.264 codec?
I haven't tried. But as I remember from other cuts last year (other Magix version!): No.
The information which @johnebaker requested about your computer itself could also be very useful!
As for sending files etc. to the developers, you would need to first use the Support button in the header of any forum page to raise a ticket and then suggest that you were willing to share files which demonstrate the problem. This is a user to user forum, not a direct contact with Magix support.
I suspect your crashing may be due to one or more issues with XVid AVI files, this will occur if MEP video mode is set to Compatibility mode in MEP.
In MEP, Program settings, Display options tab, that Video Mode is set to Standard mode (Direct 3D, hardware acceleration).
IMHO the AVI settings: h.263, low bitrate and CBR setting in Bandicam are also hitting the quality of your recording and stability in video editors.
I screen record, using a different program, to MP4, h.264 codec, VBR (max bitrate of 5000 kbs) and Constant framerate. This gives a very good quality recording and is more compatible format with video editors.
I need CBR 100 to have lossless quality. In the past I used TSCC Techsmith, but Magix Video Edit always crashed. Took me so many hours to do the cuts... So I jumped to Bandicam with Xvid.
It worked well so far. Just the update (I suppose) did not good. But I finished the cut today, Magix crashed about 10 times...
I will report back if I find out some new details about the issue (when doing the next cuts). Thanks 😀
Which version number of MEP were you on before the upgrade? The most recent couple of versions of MEP have a new video engine which may have trouble with your now quite old generation processor and integrated GPU.
Is your Intel GPU active and is it on the most recent driver recommended by your PC manufacturer? Note: "most recent" may be quite old for the HD4600 iGPU (2015 or 2016).
I need CBR 100 to have lossless quality.
I don't understand that! CBR at that resolution and low bitrate would be anything but lossless. Also it says lossy in the Media info and does not indicate whether the video is CBR.
@Scenestealer I am using an AMD Radeon HD 7700 with latest drivers. That should be sufficient for such a 720p video, even if CBR is 100.
Any other codec that is lossless? In Bandicam I can choose different ones and even add new ones.
Note that TSCC does *not* work with Bandicam. After choosing it, it states "Please install Camtasia Studio screen recorder."
PS: Thanks for the tip with update the Intel graphic driver. I realized that the one I had was from 10/2017, the new one is from 11/2019. 👍 I have to cut another video project today and report back if something has changed.
UPDATE: Magix crashed again. I was cutting a similar video file as above, the recording was with CBR 3000kb/s, then it started to freeze until the software restarted by itself.
Is there any magix log on my PC that reveals the problem?!
. . . . Magix crashed again. I was cutting a similar video file as above, the recording was with CBR 3000kb/s, then it started to freeze until the software restarted by itself . . . .
IMO you will always have issues with the AVI files and MEP - this is not a bug/fault with MEP. This type of AVI file is known to cause issues in several different video editors.
For your PC, recording as MP4 h.264 VBR, second row of table, is the option to go for.
Using CBR is not necessary, nor advised - it does not allow the encoder to use more data bits where needed, seriously hurting the quality of the recorded video, this is more so at the low video bitrate settings used for the AVI.
