Choppy Playback/Timeline Marker Not Moving

bobthetrooper wrote on 9/19/2015, 11:12 AM

I've recently started having issues with Magix Movie Edit Pro 2015 (version 14.0.0.160).
It was fine a couple of weeks ago - now having the following issues.

  • Playback is choppy - audio plays fine, but video skips
  • Timeline marker doesn't move across the video - it jumps when you stop playing

The issues happens across all audio and video formats. I've tried numerous files with different codecs (AVI, MP4, MP3) and frame-rates (24, 30, 60). I've had a look through other posts and no other suggestions have resolved the issues. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled. When I load old project files they are impacted with the playback/timeline issues.

I have an HP Laptop, with the following specs:

  • Windows 10
  • Intel Core i5-4200M CPU @2.5GHz
  • 8GB RAM
  • 64-bit OS
  • 1TB Hard-drive
  • NVIDIA GeForce 840M/Intel HD 4600

Can anyone help? I’m at the point of looking at alternative software...

Hi

The laptop is under powered especially for HD (1080i or p) and 4K video.

Both these resolutions are processor intensive and require a quad core processor to run preview back smoothly, depending on whether hardware accelerated transitions and effects are used.

Things that can help are :

  • Using proxy files

  • Setting the Preview monitor performance to Reduced resolution, Reduced framerate and Use proxy files.

Hi John EB, thanks for your reply.

I've been running Magix Movie Edit Pro 2015 for the last ~10 months without any hassle.
Up until now everything has worked fine, I've never had any issues with preview playback - it's only been in the last couple of weeks that this has started happening.

My2015 version of Magix Movie Edit Pro doesn't have the option to create proxy files?
I've downloaded a trial of MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2016 Plus and checked the box to create proxy files and still have the same issues with playback.

I also have reduced resolution and framerate checked, on Magix Movie Edit Pro 2015.

Any other ideas?

Hi

. . . . Any other ideas? . . .

You are missing some patches - the latest version is 14.0.0.183 if this does not fix the problem then:

If the program has been running fine for 10 months this would suggest something else has changed on the laptop such as:.

  1. Windows 10 was an upgrade from Windows 8 or 7 in which case you may need to do a clean install of MEP, however see 3 before doing this using the procedure in this post - where you see a reference to SMS 2014 substitute MEP 2015

  2. New program(s) installed eg change of Antivirus software

  3. Graphics drivers have been updated and this is reducing performance. - this could be part of 1 if you upgraded.

Hello John,

What do I do if #2 might be my issue. I did just recently update my antivirus. I am still working with window 8.

I am also having this issue right now and I'm at the end of a project. Nothing has changed since I last used the software. Did anything resolve this for bobthetrooper? I am using Magix Movie Edit Pro 2016 Plus.

Currently using Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus 2021 on Windows 10 OS,

@Daneane71

Why are you resurrecting a thread which is more than four years old and about a different version of mEP to the one you have? Please do not do this, but rather start a new thread with your question, ensuring you include ALL the details about your computer, as explained in this post, along with the exact version number of MEP Plus which you have, to be found under Help>About.

This thread will be closed.
