Computer doesn't see my USB Dongle in File Explorer

I just purchased Easy Video Rescue Your Videotapes, so here's my problem. After
installing the software that I just received, I opened the program and followed
the instructions. I attached my Canon Mini DV Ultra camera to my computer via the
AV USB cord that Magix provided and started my camera and it plays back on my camera
screen just fine, but after selecting the correct format the Magix program gives
me an error to say "Recording Component Could Not Be
Started", even though it was presently playing just fine on the camera at the same
time. So I had the option to switch to SVHS plug on my camera and I received the same error.
How can I transfer the files from the camera if I continually receive this error
message. I have tried multiple times with different cables, and all are the same
error.  My laptop is a recent HP with Windows 10 with recent updates.

@lugeman Have you allowed microphone and camera access in the Windows security settings? If not then it's possible that this is the cause of your problem.

@lugeman

What exact model is your camcorder?

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

@lugeman

I don't recall hearing about that message before so it is an odd one. A couple of things to check:

- Connect you camcorder to a TV using the Canon AV (Yellow, Red, White) lead and see if you get a picture. This will confirm the cabling to the dongle is OK.

- Check Windows Device Manager to ensure your Magix dongle is shown in Sound/Video/Game Controllers. It may appear with a name may be similar to USB 2861, USB 28600 or like this: "USB Audio Device" and USB Composite Device in USB controllers (I got all that from this topic).

- Check install the latest driver. Go to this page and follow the instructions.
