Constant crashing

DugsBugs wrote on 6/12/2018, 2:32 AM

I'm starting to wonder if a lot of the current problems I am having are partly to do with the Windows 10 update.
I couldn't even get through a basic slide show today without crashing.
When moving a keyframe, the program froze and shut down. This happened on numerous occasions.
I have never had this happen before but most of the current issues people seem to be having including lost audio and shutting down have started since the windows major update.
I am no longer able to roll back to earlier version of windows so I may have to do a system restore to clean all the crap from the computer and go back to the beginning which is days of work.
I read Microsoft are working on a fix but won't be ready for a while.
If I can't get through a slideshow then what chance do I have with a full edit.
Anyone else having these issues?
Doug.

Hi Doug

There are definitely people having crashing issues in the other forums with this new version but others who do not have the same problem like "Hope" in the German forum who wrote:-

VPX seems to be much more stable . Program aborts, with the typical error report reimbursements, have not occurred so far.

Furthermore, it seems that after several hours of work, VPX becomes super slow. The preview rendering then takes the same sequence instead of seconds, 1-2 minutes. Cleaning the paging file or RAM does not help. PC must be restarted.

After the last update to 16.0.1.242, it is no longer possible to insert a file directly from Explorer into the timeline . Any files can only be inserted via the import window. Would prime if there was a correction to work faster.

In the templates you can change the size of the icons but the font is much too small and very bad to recognize . And if I have in the template areas (eg 184 me) additional panels, where all the icons look the same (what a wiklich nothing good), the font must be large and recognizable.

His third paragraph has been contradicted by another user and some other minor bugs reported (as in 4).

His second para. and your comments about the slide show may indicate some memory management issues, as High resolution stills can use a lot of memory.

Mathias has been passing on the posts to the Devs and a patch will be coming but not sure when.

One guy had crashes with an empty project when he tried to adjust the TV cropping box in Overall "Movie effects".

Judging by the variation in experiences, it must be triggered by PC setup, and hardware and driver differences but this does not mean the program should not be made more robust.

Win10 1803 could be having an influence but not in all cases.

Some have been able to roll back to VPX9 to continue.

Hopefully a patch will come soon so meantime I will not be updating to VPX10.

Hi Peter.
I wiped my computer overnight hoping it would take me back to the previous windows when I bought it but not to be.
Microsoft took care of that one.
I am thinking it's a windows issue because even my VPX 7 has the same issues and my other computer with VPX 10 also crashes.
It's getting to the point where I am saving after every move. When it crashes, the settings go back to default as well.
Keyframes have never caused crashing before.
I guess it's back to treading very carefully with every move and save save save until the problem is sorted.
Not very enjoyable.
I just moved a photo and it crashed. Very unpredictable.
I asked support for the previous patch but I didn't get a response. I might try them again so I can roll back to 9

I guess you mean you had to download an ISO from Microsoft to restore which is only available as the latest build? A disc image saved now and again would have saved you there. You can do this through Windows Back up and Restore.

You are having a tough time and I hope you get some satisfaction soon.

Generally when you do a complete restore back to factory, it gives you what came with the computer.
When it re installed windows, it automatically updated.
I guess if I can get hold of an earlier version on disc then it may work.
I didn't ever do a backup when I bought it.
Maybe HP Support can help me out. It's still under warranty.
I may try installing on my windows 7 computer to prove a point.
This is ruining my life.
