Correcting a Voice Over recording (inserting speaking sound)

Walter.I wrote on 11/21/2020, 4:34 AM

Sound Forge Pro 14 Build 112
If I want to correct an existing voice over - i.e. insert something either at the beginning or in the middle of the media file - the existing sound is overwritten.
Where can I set that my recording does not overwrite the existing wavy line, but simply pushes it backwards. (like when you press the insert key in Mikrossoft Word to insert something into an existing text)
Have looked in the help and here in the forum, but found nothing.

@Walter.I  ... I'm using the same version/build - have both the destination and additional audio files opened as a tab in SFP, highlight on the timeline the selection of the audio that you want to insert and then click Ctrl+C to copy it, then go to the destination file and place the cursor at the point where you want to insert, and then click Ctrl-V to paste it. It acts as an insert just like in MS Word and does not overwrite unless there is some other setting in SFP that allows overwriting.

You can also use the 'Event mode' which may be more flexible and can paste an audio clip over the top of existing data if need be.
Also, if you 'Save as' a Sound Forge project file <.frg>, nothing is permanent. When the editing is done to your satisfaction, select "Render as" and choose the desired file format,

btw, if you updated to build 111 (or 112) and wish to have multiple files open for copy/paste and such, read this post on the new default "Multi-instancing".

Either I expressed myself badly or I'm afraid it won't work the way I want it to.
Here is an example of how I would like to work:
I have already recorded a voice over for a film that consists of two sentences.
Now I realize that I would like to add a sentence in between.
I would now like to place the cursor between the two sentences, press the "Record" button and speak the missing sentence - the last sentence should move backwards and not be overwritten, as is happening now.

@rraud
I will of course examine your suggestion, I don't know that yet.

I would recommend recording it separately (new file) then copy/paste the pertinent data into the existing file.

- Copy the audio data that you just recorded, (it should be the same sample rate, bit depth and mono/stereo format), place the cursor where your wish to insert it in the existing file and select. 'Edit> Paste' (or Ctrl+V). the audio after the insert will remain and be pushed back accordingly.. Do not use the 'Event' mode for this type procedure.

Does that mean in plain language: "My approach is not possible in Soundforge Pro 14"?

As you describe it here, I am currently doing it - but that is very cumbersome.

It is possible to record from a cursor point on an existing timeline file, but newly recorded data would overwrite what is already there, instead of rippling it towards the tail.. So AFAIK, it is not possible . Maybe someone else has a better workflow. I am primarily a PSM, (at least I was prior to COVID), so I rarely recorded to SF
You may though be able to cut or copy the tail data prior to recording, then paste it back in after recording the insert. In theory that should work, but I have not tried it.
