Crashing when using 3d animation templates

Vince80 wrote on 12/24/2020, 10:25 PM

Hello,

New to this program (Move Edit Pro 2021), good so far, but run into a little bug - seems every time I try to insert a 3D animation basic or static title template onto my timeline, the program just freezes until I'm forced to close it from the task manager. I've tried a few of the 3D templates and they all seem to do this. I more then meet the minimum requirements for the program. Anyone else have this problem?

Hi and welcome to the forum

What is your computer specification, Windows version and version number of Movie Edit Pro - see this topic for more details of what is required.

Hello John, Apologies, I should have read that first.

Computer specs:

Ryzen 3700X 3.7 Ghz, EVGA Geforce 2080 Super 8GB GDDR6, Soundblaster Z sound card with latest driver updates, 32 GB of RAM. Windows 10 64 bit, 20H2 - fully up to date.

Movie Edit Pro Premium, V20.0.1.73 UDP3

The problem described above, I have attached a screenshot of the issue - the second I try to change the default test for this template the software freezes dead.

I can do it with nothing on the timeline, no other formats loaded, same issue.

@Vince80

Hi

Thanks for the additional information.

I can replicate the issue of freezing irrespective of whether an Intel iGPU is present and Direct3D hardware acceleration is not selected.

The effect does work and utilises the Nvidia GPU to accelerate it, with these Display options.

Hello John,

Thanks for the update - I tried this, however, it still freezes for me. Given I was able to at least type a few letters of my title screen before this happened, but the end result was the same.

Here is the same window.

Hi

Try setting the Video output option in the image you posted to the RTX 2080, you can see mine is selected in the image I posted - do not check the Video output activated option next to it.

Hi

Do other 3D titles behave the same?

I think this needs some input from Magix Support, it may be a bug.

Raise a Support ticket through the Support link at the top of the page, however do read this guide to help you navigate through the system.

Hi Vince.

Yes you need studio drivers. Video editing programs do not use game drivers and could be why your nvidia card is not showing.

Hello, Game drivers and Studio Drivers are mostly the same, with some extra validations for Studio. I did give it a try, no change. Same freezing issue, and nothing additional shows up under preferences that wasn't present before.

Thanks for the suggestion though, was worth a try.

CubeAce wrote on 12/27/2020, 10:35 AM

@Vince80

Hi Vince.

In Windows Settings / System / Graphics settings / Do you have Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling switched on? Then in the Graphics performance preference below that, have you added MEP, which will show as Magix Video deluxe to the desktop app section and have it set to either Let Windows decide or High performance?

Try Let Windows decide first.

Ray.

Alright, so update, this solution allows me to add the animation to the timeline without freezing, however, when i try to change the text to anything else, it still crashes. This has to be a bug, I'll let MAGIX handle this.

CubeAce wrote on 12/27/2020, 2:25 PM

@Vince80

Hi Vince.

Sorry to hear that and understand the need to contact Magix. It may be a few days or more though before you get a reply due to the holiday season.

I only really have one more question at this point.

Do you keep an eye on the temperatures of the various components of your system when doing all this?

I ask because I have never had a stable system using a supplied CPU heat-sink and have always had to get something rate much higher to cope with the demands of the constant high CPU usage that happens when dealing with video editing. I tend to try to keep all components around the 45c to 55c temperature range as much as possible. Mainly to try to keep the system longevity of components as good as I can but also because it causes systems to trip whenever the temperatures have risen above 85c for sustained periods on my old systems.

I notice your Ryzen 3700X 3.7 Ghz has very similar specifications to my i9900k and I've had to put in a huge four heat pipe CPU cooler in.

Hey Ray, it's a bummer but I can work around it.

I actually do have an after market cooler for my ryzen as I agree the stock coolers don't usually work very well. But I'll keep an eye on it just in case.
