Does Movie Edit Pro prevent to use Magix Movies On Dvd7 ?

esaollikainen wrote on 11/6/2020, 9:24 AM

Hi, When I started to use Movie Edit Pro 2016 ( just one month ago ) I cannot open any more the old Magix Movies on DVD7. I would need it still because I like to test if my PC runs better by that old software. In Movie Edit Pro the CPU occasionally jumps into 100% and I assume that it occures short stops while recording VHS cassettes. So, do these two softwares have some kind of connection. I have not yet dared to uninstall the Movies on DVD but would it possible to get it also back.

Hi

. . . . . Movie Edit Pro 2016 ... cannot open ... Magix Movies on DVD7. . . . .

Movie Edit Pro 2016 cannot read the project files (.DIP) from Movies on DVD 7 - the file formats are very different, nor can they be converted from one format to the other.

Arrh, the old DIPs and MVDs! Loved them!

I think @esaollikainen is asking if Magix MEP prevents he running of Magix Movies on DVD (as opposed to opening DIPs with MEP).

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

@esaollikainen @johnebaker @AAProds

My suspicion is that MEP has "updated" some part of the Movies on DVD installation, such that the latter is now unavailable.

Unless I am mistaken, the purpose of the older program is, partly at least, to allow the transfer of VHS "movies" to DVD. Is that correct? If so, then MEP can also do this (assuming the right connections between tape player and computer are made) but the OP's mention of short stops while recording VHS cassettes suggests that his computer may not be fully meeting the minimum requirements to run MEP. So, @esaollikainen, can you read this post and give us all the detail listed there about your computer, operating system version and build, hard drives, CPU, RAM etc.

Good catch 👍 missed that scenario.

@emmrecs, I agree with your suspicions MEP has "updated" some part of the Movies on DVD installation.

My PC is AsusN5, 64bit, IntelCore i3, 2.27 Ghz, RAM 4 G, ten years old.
Movie on DVD7 is product 7.0.3.7, 13.3.2009 ( 13,3 Mb )

When I start DVD7, ”Movie On DVD7”- page appears and on the down row it can be seen that different parts of the program will be louded. After a while this display disappears and display ”New Project Settings” appears. And when I then click ”OK”, this display disappears and there is nothing to be seen. So the normal home page do not appear at all.

BUT JUST NOW I found out that DVD7 is anyway running somewhere inside the PC because it can be seen on the Task Manager. There can also be seen that DVD7 is 32-bit version. ( earlier I have not noticed that and I started to study if 32-bit application runs in 64-bit operating system )

Anyway before installing MEPro the DVD7 worked just perfectly
