Fades quit working suddenly, error messages trying to re-install app

Roger-Lewis wrote on 3/6/2022, 5:19 PM

I use MAGIX Movie Edit Pro Premium 2022 on Windows 10. I just updated it on March 1st I think. Might have been the 2nd or 3rd, but it's the most recent update either way.

I had a project near completion, and when I went back into it the fades quit working. The video did not actually fade out, it just kind of blinked out at the end of the fade with some lines showing through the video. I also had some cropped/repositioned videos working like a split screen effect, and they were also not displaying properly.

I uninstalled the program to re-download and reinstall, and I keep getting continuous error messages from the website. So now I can't even start the project over because I don't have the program installed and can't re-install....

Should I just find a new program to work with and try and get my money back or do I have another option?

@Roger-Lewis

Hi Roger and welcome to the user to user forums.

Updates can mean changes to an existing project can happen when re-opened after a program 'update' with the inevitable code changes that happen within the program.

It would normally be wise not to update a program while there are unfinished projects in the pipeline.

Unfortunately this could also effect older finished projects as well if opened again. It is one of the many banes of using modern software in general.

Make sure there are no remnants of the old program lurking around on your hard drive before trying to reinstall it.

Try turning off any antivirus program and your firewall before downloading the program again. See if that helps.

If it doesn't, try taking a screenshot of the error messages please and post them back here for us to look at.

If you do get the program to re-install ignore any further update requests until you finish your current project or alternatively adjust the project again and it should keep the new adjustments when saved.

Personally I have not had this problem with any of the updates for this version of MEP which may mean another underlying problem.

It helps when dealing with these queries that people add their complete computer specifications to the inquiry as asked for in this post. as it can help us fellow users to spot possible problems and saves us asking additional questions.

Ray.

Hi Roger.

I would do as the notice suggests and contact Magix using the email address supplied in the notice. They may be able to direct you to a different download server. It could also be the installer is not loading correctly. Also add that image if you can and your computer specs. Also let them know the program was actually working before you uninstalled it. You may have lost settings but it looks from what you said it was working otherwise.

Out of interest, what video resolutions and frame rates are you working at?

Did you update from a previous version of Movie Edit Pro (MEP) ?

If so which version?

Hi

. . . . Intel i5-2500. . . . mpeg4 1080 full HD at 29.97 frame rate. . . . The video did not actually fade out, it just kind of blinked out at the end of the fade with some lines showing through the video.. . .

I suspect the latest update has tipped the computer 'over the edge', when using FullHD as the source video, such that it cannot process the transitions in the video when playing back on the timeline and 'jumps' from one clip to the next.

The computer specification you have given is below the minimum recommended specification - the Intel HD 2000 iGPU does not support DirectX 11 which is required for using the iGPU for hardware acceleration. The minimum processor iGPU that can is the Intel HD4600 in 4th generation Intel processors - the i5-2500 is a 2nd generation processor.

Is there a Nvidia graphics card which supports NVENC, or an AMD graphics card supporting DirectX 11 or better in the PC?

Assuming you did not have an earlier version of MEP eg 2015 - 2019 then once you get the program re-installed try the following to improve the performance:

In MEP  2022

  • In the Program Settings, Device options tab, set the Import, Processing and Export  options to CPU if they are not already set to this.

  • Turn on the Lightning icon bottom right of the preview monitor if it is not already on (blue).

  • In the project settings turn on Automatically create proxy files option - this will create lower resolution files for use on the timeline, the originals will be used when exporting or DVD/BD burning to disc.

Note

  • The creation of proxy files will take some time as the video clips are loaded on to the timeline, once created they will not be recreated, every time you open the project unless return to the project subject to the next item.

  • The proxy files will use more disc space, however they can be deleted when the project is completed.

I should mention that after I updated the software it WAS working, and I even successfully exported a rough draft. I went back into make some edits, and when I exported the next time I started noticing things getting weird. Like the program file corrupted or something. Is this something you've seen before?

johnebaker wrote on 3/7/2022, 4:13 PM

@Roger-Lewis

Hi

This sounds like the project file could be corrupted. It has been seen before, usually when one gets corrupted it will not load.or has a series of issues.

In the same folder as the project file there may be up to 10 auto backup files with the file extension .MV_ eg Project name_BAK0.MV_ to Project name_BAK9.MV_ - you can try loading these in to MEP using File, Load backup project.

Note  worked backwards by date the file was created until you get one to load correctly - backups are recycled after no. 9 is reached, the next is 0 then 1 etc up to 9 again

I'd check with them first; they may then send you on to Magix Support.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

@Roger-Lewis

It says my serial number is for a different product though, so apparently it's not the same program.......

In which case, email infoservice@magix.net, explain your problem (ensuring you include your existing serial number) and ask that they issue you with a new serial key for Movie Studio 2022. Since you currently have MEP Premium I think you are entitled to have the Suite edition of MS.

Rojer, there are no "free trial" versions on the My Products page. The only downloads on that page are the programs you have already registered. "Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium" is shown on my page. The installation file currently there is MEP 2022 v 21.0.2.130, which I suspect is the version that you updated to a couple of days ago, as that 130 patch is only very new.

Whether a re-install will do any good is debateable given your problems only started a few days ago after your update.

It says my serial number is for a different product

This may be because you're trying to register the "trial" when you already have the full version already registered.

Are you sure you don't have a "Movie Edit Pro Premium" item in your list of products?

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

I already said this earlier... I absolutely do have Movie Edit Pro Premium in my list of products, but it won't complete the download without an error, same issue on multiple computers. I included a screenshot earlier in this thread..

It's clearly a website issue..

We've deduced maybe my project file went bad, and I was shown how to access backup files but the issue now is that I cannot even install the damn program

That's a good idea... going to be super annoying if it's really just that easy....

The error is happening after the setup file is downloaded, once I open the file, the MAGIX setup downloads more files before installing, and that's when the error happens. It's happened on two computers on two different browsers. (one computer isnt mine but is brand new and more than twice the computing power of this one, so I don't think it's a performance issue)

I'm waiting for a response from infoservice@magix.net
