Frequent program freezes when editing

ian-page wrote on 3/30/2021, 4:27 AM

The program either freezes with zero processor use, or freezes with high processor use for a long time during simple editing functions eg moving the cursor or clicking on the speed or other icons. This started about two weeks ago . the freezes occur on many different videos , and there's no obvious relationship to anything I'm doing. The program is unusable..

Windows version 2004 os build 19041.867 experience pack 120.2212.5510

AMD FX-8300 8 core 3.30 ghz

Ram 16GB, 64 bit OS, x64 based processor

Dual monitors UE590-u28e590d (dp) samsung

SOUND
Nvidea high def audio, virtual audio device( wave extensible)(WDM)

Realtek high definition audio

USB audio device

nvidea geforce gtx 1070

MAGIX Video edit pro version 19.0.2.58 (udp3), ug code 8443 ka2.

It occurs with a variety of source video formats including no loaded video at all. typical examples are mp4 50mb, 1280*720 839 kbs,29.97 frames per second.

One guaranteed way to freeze it is to create4 a new folder while exporting, and then while on the same screen change the folder name

The freezes occur at any time , eg when moving the cursor to a different part of the video, it even froze when I put up the about screen when collecting data for this post. It has frozen at 98% complete on a video export ( and at various other places at random in other files- the same file can freeze in different places). It froze when I clicked on the effects/sharpness tab. I switched off automatic save, and hardware acceleration - no difference.

I have been using this software for years, although not in a very sophisticated way, and don't use most of the features other than than edit to remove sections, top and tail, and adjust the image brightness and contrast. I have not had problems before , and I am not doing anything different.

I've had 30 or more freezes in the last week usually with no processor activity, occasionally with high processor activity for long periods with no IO or move of the progress bar.

I bought the extended update deal, which also installed ashampoo snap but the problem was occurring before that.

I do email and basic web access while waiting for exports to finish when I actually get to finish an edit., This caused no problems before the latest version. I have tried doing nothing else with the machine .during exports and editing- no better.

It has just frozen while I was writing this note, the program jumped to foreground and froze the screen while no media was loaded , doing nothing , while consuming 17% of the processor and 7 gb of ram. I could only kill it using task manager.

Something is badly wrong!

Hi

I have closed your other post which is on the same topic.

Try turning of the 2 hardware acceleration options in the Program settings, Import/Export tab.
