INSTALLING LEGACY PLUG-INS

@Burton-Allan

Hi

Thanks for coming back on which error message you were referring to.

I already gave you the most likely cause of that error message in this comment above.

. . . . I'm not really the Administrator of my own computer . . . .

That is correct - Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, effectively dumbed down the 'Administrator' user account privileges. There is a higher privileged 'Administrator' level which can only be accessed using the 'Run as administrator' option and is needed for some CMD commands that require to launch the CMD window as well as some programs with higher privileges.

Going back to a previous comment you made:- 'I just went through a complete re-install of Windows'

To save a lot of time reinstalling, I use a disc imaging program to create images of my PC and Laptop creating a base image - windows installed and updated to get a quick start if a Windows re-install is necessary.

I also create backup images of the C: drive at scheduled monthly intervals, in case an update etc causes major issues, using an extended Grandfather, Father, Son strategy. These backup images are kept on external drives.

Of the many imaging programs I have used in the past, my personal preference is Macrium Reflect, it gets the job done, is easy to use and has some nice features including Rescue disc creation - this is not an advert for, or sponsorship by Macrium.

Hi, SP and John, I wanted to follow-up and just say thank you for letting me vent on both of you. My nightmare is over. It took until early January 2025. UNACCEPTABLE AND HORRIBLE. The support from Magix and from Izotope is just awful. It takes about a week for an inquiry or incident to be responded to. Actually longer than a week! Almost 2-weeks. Then, when you reply to their response, it takes ANOTHER WEEK and if it can't be resolved in 1 or 2 emails and replys, it goes on and on for a month or more.

If I had to rank them, MAGIX is worse than Izotope and they both blame the other and tell you to reach out to the other. In the end, Izotope helped me out. They had some kind of legacy link to get to the Mastering Suite in Sound Forge 11. I was also able to get the other 32-bit legacy plug-ins to work in Sound Forge 16.

I did a trial of Sound Forge 18 to see if the legacy VST plug-ins (not just Mastering Suite 32-bit) work any better from the bug in the way the 32-bit plug-ins display, but, there is ZERO improvement in the latest version of Sound Forge 18 in the way the legacy 32-bit plug-ins display. Very disappointing.

Also, after installing Sound Forge 11, there is some other bug where it doesn't like Windows 11. It works, but, when you launch it, I get an error, see the screenshot. But, when I click OK out of the error popup, then Sound Forge 11 launches and works fine. I tried making sure I was running it as Administrator, but, it still happens.

I'm just happy to be able to use that Mastering Suite again. I had such a nightmare over this, that I have not even bothered to deal with Spectra Layers. I'm just exhausted and drained from the whole process. I tried reaching Steinberg once and gave up. I never really found the program, user-friendly enough, at least in the bundled older version that came in Sound Forge 16.

In comparison, I have several WAVES plug-ins. Not only are they accessible by phone and email, but, the response time is same day when you have a customer service issue. I'm really disillusioned. I've been using Sound Forge for years, but, between that and Izotope now being sold, I don't know whether it is time to try Pro Tools or something. I was down for over a month!

I feel as though the support experience from both Magix and Izotope is what I would expect from an open-source free program like Audacity or something. It's just horrible.

But, appreciate you, SP and John. Thank You Again for being my sounding board.

THIS IS THE SOUND FORGE 11 ERROR - SEE ATTACHED

Hey, that fixed it!! I'm on Windows 11 - not Windows 10 - but that fixed it! I didn't even have to reboot the computer. Thanks Again, RRaud!🙂🙂🙂
