Hi,

Your original question said that you were having sync problems in the timeline and when you burned to DVD.  http://www.magix.info/us/audio-video-out-of-sync-movie-edit-pro-2013.knowledge.1008705.html  You have now changed your question to say that it only happens when you burn to DVD.  That is a big difference from what you originally said.  I would not have given the answer that I did if you had not mentioned that it was out of sync in the timeline and got worse on burn.

So have you tried encoding your project to a "directory" on your hard drive, and then just play it back or try burning it in another burner such as ImgBurn (which is a free burner).  I have found that sometimes the MEP burner produces erratic results on burn, so I rarely use it anymore.

Hi George

Thanks for the help.

I am having a probelm with both, have not tried any external software.

When I watch in the timeline syn is fine.

When I export as MPG to desktop.... it's out.

When I burn to DVD it's out.

That'e the extent of my problem at the moment.

All frame rates are the same... the original footage sync is fine, as I say in the timeline it's also perfect.

I'm lost.

Thanks again

Hi

What format is the source video on the timeline?

John

Hi John

The imported videos are two formats, one is motion jpg ( avi ) the other is AVCHD Video (.MTS).

I've checked frame rates, all identical.. in my time line the sync is perfect for both, when I burn to DVD the motion jpg is out but not the AVCHD.

My only though here is the motion jpeg settings could be diffrerent and I have't found it and that the viewer in MEP timeline does not give me a true reflection of what to expect when burning.

Or the burn process itself throws things out again.

Still lost

johnebaker wrote on 8/29/2013, 1:38 AM

Hi

. . . . one is motion jpg ( avi ) . . .

Right click the AVI clip(s) and select Create frametable (new) then try the burn again - this should sort out the sync problem.

Do not do this with the AVCHD clips

MEP does not allow me to Create ( New ) Frame table for the avi file... it does for AVCHD.

I've tried same format raw and I've tried ungrouping... no luck

Hi

Use GSpot or MediaInfo to analyse one of the AVI clips so we can find out what is actually in the file (AVI is not a video format it is a 'container' file).

I suspect that the audio bitrate in the files may be non standard - also what was the source of the AVI files?

Hi John

I've check the Bitrates are 1536 on the AVI and 256 on the .MTS.

I've included a screenshot. I suspect you might be right in that the files are not identical.

The part I don't get is that MEP shows it perfectly in the timeline, then the export or burn is thrown out.

This is a most misleading timeline representation for MEP...

Your help so far is much appreciated.

John, your advise has been most helpfull, can you shed any further light on my problem... as per the image posted

johnebaker wrote on 9/4/2013, 1:47 PM

Hi

Apologies - I said bitrate when I meant Sample rate - however the images also shows this is the same for both types of video ie 48kHz which is OK.

We still need to see what the video format is inside the AVI fles to eliminate any problems with that.

I suspect there may be a codec issue - have you installed any of the all in one codec packs available eg KLite etc?

Can you try creating two short projects say 10 mins long

      1.   Use just the AVI files and burn without a disc in the burner when prompted to insert a disc click Cancel..  This will create a folder containing the VOBs etc. Rename the folder so you can do step 2

      2.    Repeat 1 using the mts files only.

Try playing the resulting DVD images - if you do not have a program which can play the VOB files, download VLC player - this is a useful program to have as it can play almost anything!!

Hopefully one will be OK and the other will have the sync problem.

Hi Crash

A German member has just posted this (translated) :-

Asynchronicity problem solved (at least for me)

Your question refers to video deluxe (MEP)

I had Yes repeatedly complained about the lack of synchronicity between image and sound for VdL. Vmtl. in vain, because I believe to have found the error.

The files are 100% in the timeline synchronously. An offset of approx. 2 to 3 frames image before tone showed only after burning to DVD or BD. After the same result while cutting with EDIUS 6.5 showed, I took my player under the microscope.

First, I recorded an hour an acoustic and optical metronome as test project as 1920 x 1080 and put it in the time line. There 100% synchronous. Then on BD burned and on TV a displacement of approx. two frames image against sound.

The M2TS file that is stored on the BD again loaded into the timeline of VdL and EDIUS. Absolute synchronicity, i.e. sound and image have been burned by VdL absolutely synchronously. As a result, I had to find the problem with my player.

First of all, I had used only one HDMI cable. In other words, image and sound together torment by a cable. Now, I have connected the external audio of player with the audio IN of the TV via RCA cable. Set the player in its Setup on PCM and already there is absolutely 100% synchronicity. At least with me.

How much is your offset and is it linear? Does the sync problem show if you play the DVD on your computer's DVD player. Modern TV's do a lot of picture processing and can introduce delays.

Peter

I am a little annoyed that this thread now with 14 answers keeps popping up to the top of the list even though it was originally posted on August 28.  Someone (probably a moderator) needs to tell this person that whatever they are doing should really stop.  I am interested in helping as many people as possible, but I will not post any replies until this user "crash" stops moving this post to the top of the que.

There are 4 other users who have posted qustions today, yet this one is on the top of the list, what is wrong with this picture?

@George, I don't think it's anything to do with the OP that this thread is still at the top of the list.  I admit I've no idea why it is though!

Unless it's the simple fact that in the "Questions" section of the forum any post which has "several" answers is automatically placed first?

(I've just replied to a post lower down the list which previously had no answers and, despite refreshing the page, it has stubbornly remained where it was on the list of "questions".)

@ Jeff, I know how this is done, and I just think it is not fair to other users.  This user has already done it a number of times.  I could make it so that all of my posts go to the top of the list, but I don't.  I think that this user knows exactly what they are doing, and that is what I object to.  We all want our posts and our questions to be top of mind, and I would be happy to post a message telling all users exactly how to get their posts to the top of the list, but I simply don't think that it is fair so I won't do it!!

George

@ John, and other moderators, if you think this is OK, then let me know and I will tell all users how they can get their posts put to the top of the list.  Maybe even do a tutorial on how to get your post moved to the top of the list.  Easy enough, fair and equitable no!

I always thought that the reason the posts went to the top in Questions was because this Tab is linked to the Questions and answers section which is set up to put anything new (ie answers) to the top if "latest first" is selected. This is how a lot other forums work and I prefer it. I wish the Discussion tab could do the same otherwise you spend a lot of time opening older unresolved topics to see if there has been a solution.

It should be selectable for latest first or latest answers first, ideally.

Hi

@George - if the OP was bumping this thread (I do know how to do this) and the thread was not active then they would be told .  However in this case the OP posted a reply yesterday (4th) so no action is needed.

@Terry the OP states : . . . . The imported videos are two formats, one is motion jpg ( avi ) the other is AVCHD Video (.MTS). . . . .  as Peter quite rightly pointed out however we still have not got the GSpot or MediaInfo information requested as to the exact format/properties of the AVI files.

AFAICS the more active a thread is the higher it rises in the listings - this thread has been very active.

Hopefully crash will have carried out more testing and be back soon with more information and findings.

Hi George

I honestly have no time to be plying silly buggers on a forum, but I've had quite a bit of help from other forum members here so far. So for the benefit of forum users and moderators let me point out the following, and this might help with moderation.

On 4/09/2013 I recieved a bot email saying, my question has recieved 9 answers so far, as the page only shows ten posts, I assumed I needed to post another question to keep the thread open, until I have my problem resolved. This might be something the form designers can look at. If I am misunderstanding the bot mail, then I'm sure others are too.

Also note, to date I have responded, to the folks that are trying to help me. I am giving them feedback as I follow their requests and instructions. The forum structure gives me only 2 ways to do this, the one way is to quote what they are saying and write my response, as I am doing here. The other is to use the answer option. As I can't answer my own question I choose the former ( Quote ) . This is a bit annoying as it does take up space.

If my posts are getting bumped up, I cannot see that, only that my original question always remains at the top.

I'm not sure if this helps you guys moderate the forum, I hope it does. This post can be deleted by the moderator. BTW, I choose to view this thread in the "view latest first otion". doubt that helps, but it does mean I don't need to check the second page.

To johnbaker.. I am curently trying to export several formats to see if any are better, unformtuantely I have not had a chance to get the GSpot or MediaInfo.

terrypin wrote on 9/6/2013, 1:44 AM

Hi,

Is it possible for you to create a very small project that exhibits this burning issue - no pun intended - and then use File > Backup > Copy project and media into folder, zip it up and upload it? We can then try to reproduce.

Of course, it could prove difficult as the video may need to be relatively long to demonstrate the sync problem. But hosts like Dropbox etc could still make it achievable.

This assumes the other lines of attack aren't fruitful, particularly that via the promising German thread from Peter.

Hi Crash

. . . . If I am misunderstanding the bot mail, then I'm sure others are too. . . . .

The bot mail will send you a message everytime an answer is added or, as far as I can tell, edited after a set time period - the ' editing window' which allows users to correct their posts - has expired.

. . . . The forum structure gives me only 2 ways to do this, the one way is to quote what they are saying and write my response, as I am doing here. The other is to use the answer option. . . . .

You can use both - the Quote option is more useful when you are responding to a specific question/answer otherwise use the answer option to your own question.

. . . . . To johnbaker.. I am curently trying to export several formats to see if any are better . . . .

Thanks for letting us know - this is appreciated as we then now that you are continuing to persevere to find a solution to the problem and some of the testing can take a lot of time

When you have completed these and you still find the problem no matter which format the import or export is then Terry's suggestion is a good one - we can try the project on several different systems to see if we can replicate the issue.

Cheers

John

Hi Guys

To save space I have used the Answer option to respond.

I have used the media info software to give you the analysis you need. I hope this helps.

I can see many differences in the 2 files, esp bit rate.

My concern however is still the MEP gives me a perfect preview when I'm editing. If I need to convert all the different files to a same bitrate or other, in order to get a burn which is the same as my preview in my timeline, then I've got a serious problem. Or am I expecting to much from my software.

Please let me know if you think I still need to create a project file and dropbox.

Thanks again for all the help so far folks, it makes the world of differnce for those of us on low budgets in the community media space to know there is someone one the other side willing to help.
