Movie Studio 2022 Suite - Hard Time finding Interface Options

Xtreemo wrote on 2/26/2022, 2:25 PM

Hello there,

I'm new to the forums and I've just bought Movie Studio 2022 Suite. I used to be a really huge user of the Vegas Movie Studio so I'm very used to its interface and systems.

I'd like to know how and where can I see the Project Media Files and the Audiowave for my videos, as I can't find any options around to activate and toggle their view in my user interface. All I can see is my video, but no project media files and no audio wave right below it, either.

Thanks in advance for your answers!

@Xtreemo Hi, go to File or press Y for Settings, there's Audio options in Video/Audio, Right click on the event on the timeline - Audio functions, & project files are in the Import tree, sub folders for that tree can be created by right clicking on the thumbnail - Create Link for folder 👍

@Xtreemo

Hi and welcome to the forum

Magix Movie Studio (MMS) is a different program to the discontinued Vegas Movie Studio (VMS)

MMS does not have a project folder where you can see the loaded audio/image/video files. The loaded files are indicated by red squares against their icons in the Media Pool as shown below.

A complete list of used files is in the Project settings (E key), Movie Information tab, unfortunately this cannot be exported. Note the list includes the temporary files, with file extensions .HDP and .H0, the program creates in the same folder as the video/image/audio files are located. Once a project is finished these can be deleted.

There are a few features you will find different from VMS however they are quickly accustomed to:

  • the track order is the reverse of VMS - track 1 is the background track, video and images on higher track numbers appear in front of the background track. A typical timeline is shown in the image above.

  • all tracks are universal ie they can contain video, images, titles, audio etc there are no designated tracks for specific object types - common practice is to put audio eg music on a track below the video/images etc, by default MMS will use track 5, however if this is occupied the next available track will be used

  • Events are no longer called events, for the most part they are transitions or effects

You will also find that MMS has more features than VMS

It would help us to help you if you put your computer specification in your Profile, Signature - this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full - see mine for an example of what is needed.

Hi John:

Thank you for this short comparison of some of VMS systems versus MMS. I found this to be a great help for one who is coming from VMS and struggling to understand MMS. If there are any detailed, feature by feature comparisons explaining differences available, I think it would be well worth the effort.

Thanks again

Joe

Joe, re the audio wave display, if you're referring to the waveform for a video, go into File>Settings>Program. On the Video/Audio tab, in the Timeline section, you can choose what you see in relation to the audio. If, for some reason, the audio track doesn't display the actual waveform, try right-clicking on the audio. At the top is "display audio wave form" or similar.

There are some excellent tutes on the Tutorials link at the top of this page. One of the authors, JohnCB, is active on the forum, in addition to, of course, JohnEB above.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Hi

Magix Movie Studio is based upon Movie Edit Pro / Video Deluxe - the two product 'lines' are to be merged into one called VideoDeluxe, in the EU, and Magix Movie Studio for the rest of the world.

There is a list of tutorials here for Movie Edit Pro which should help familiarisation with the program and its capabilities.
