New "owners/developers" of Sequoia, Samplitude and Music Studio.

emmrecs wrote on 7/18/2025, 9:27 AM

I've just received an email from BorisFX confirming the sale to them of Sequoia, Samplitude and Music Studio.

I quote: The entire team, including developers, engineers, product leadership, and support staff, has made the move. We’ve formed a new subsidiary in Germany to support this transition; longtime team members Thomas Wolf and Sven Kardelke will lead as co-CEOs of Boris FX Germany GmbH.

I'm sure many of us will be delighted to learn that these 3 products will be continuing to be developed.

@emmrecs I think it's the right move. Especially that they took over the old team. The alternative would have been becoming a zombie application like Acid or Sound Forge.

Reyfox wrote on 7/18/2025, 1:57 PM

I wonder where this leaves Soundforge and Acid.... the remaining software still with Magix.

I can see Boris taking the high end software and adding it to their "collection".

SP. wrote on 7/18/2025, 2:05 PM

@Reyfox Sound Forge and Acid were developed by the same team that made Vegas. They all have the same code base. I see this as a hindrance to sell them both to another company because it's bound to the Vegas team.

And how about Vegas Pro ,.. is that a Zombie or a Deadend to ?

SP. wrote on 7/18/2025, 2:19 PM

@HHM Vegas Pro is Magix's best selling application. They will double down on that

Reyfox wrote on 7/18/2025, 3:53 PM

@HHM see the AI and Hub in Magix video editors? Came from Vegas Pro. With Gary Rebholz being the one in charge of video software development, along with being chief product owner coming from Vegas, there is a lot of additional information on Vegas development in the Vegas user forum. It certainly isn't a zombie or deadend.

Here is a video from NAB with Gary Rebholz.

@ SP Thanks, had to check out: "double down", did sound a bit like "backing out", to me, but I am happy if the general consensus is that they got rid of Samplitude, etc, to comit and focus on Vegas Pro,.. 😊

Got a license for plain Sound Forge 18 also from Vegas Pro Suite 22, never used it so far, dont know if it offers anything usefull that is not found in the latest Wavelab Pro 12 ,.. main thing is Vegas to me obviously 👍

SP. wrote on 7/18/2025, 4:25 PM

@HHM You can automate Sound Forge with scripts, for example in C#. I use this to automatically cut and edit and transform hundreds or thousands of sound effect files. I think this is the standout feature of Sound Forge.

@Reyfox Thanks for the words ,.. good and comforting to hear ,.. thanks for the video

I bought Vegas Pro Suite 22 recently ,.. to install on my new workstation still in build

@SP Sounds usefull, thanks for pointing out the standout-side, guess each editor, even the old ones can have reasons to still be used for specific tasks if nothing else

In case its a part of a certain workflow builded up, that alone is reason enugh to appriciate and keep it

Hi Ray, Jeff

Where to?

AFAICS Boris have not opened a forum for Sequoia, Samplitude and Music Studio yet. Do you have link to it or is this just an announcement?

@johnebaker @Reyfox @SP. @CubeAce

The supplied links currently go to the "old" Samplitude/Sequoia forum so it seems that, either the links have not been updated, or the "move" to BorisFX is yet to fully become operational.

Presumably, Music Studio has to be "added" to the present forum?

@emmrecs

Hi,

I had started off a reply with my thoughts and disappointments on all of this but I'll just reply to your last post.

The link to the "new'" forum is in the email that has a big button link to Join the Boris FX Community. It has my email address so I won't publish it here. I signed up, even though I already had an old account with Boris using the same email address. After which the account information is for some address in the UK. I tried changing this and it just went back to the original wrong address. Then I went to the forums - there is no forum for Samplitude that I can see.

They're off to a great start!

Hi John,

Thanks for this.

The email link which @SP. and @Reyfox posted is the one stated in the email, under FAQ #4. But I agree, the button to Join the Boris FX Community does take you somewhere very different!

Like you, I already had a Boris user account so signing up to the new community was quite straightforward for me! However, I am told to expect a confirmation email, which has yet to arrive!

Hi all

I would assume then that the old samplitude.com forum is awaiting any combination of: moving to another server, a re-brand, and a new URL to bring it under Boris FX community family.
