Does Magix have anything left? What will happen to the forum? I hope somebody knows

SP. wrote on 3/31/2026, 2:02 AM

@robertNC They still have their original programs left (Music Maker, Video Deluxe/Photostory/Video Pro X).

This reminds me when an equity company bought Corel. Great promises of "new and improved", but that never materialized. They just wanted to keep people upgrading and buying. Eventually, everything was shut down (forums, beta, facebook) and yet, they are still selling product 3 years later as if it is "new" with no updates or bug fixes.

Boris Yamnitsky, the "Boris" of Boris FX has an interesting take about what is happening here. The video is in English, and you can translate the pages of the interview into English. Here is the LINK.

Boris commented this: "With Magix, only the standard program Video Deluxe, as well as the smaller derivatives remain – although it is questionable for us whether you still have programmers for further development. Based on inside information, we assume that the “investors” are more likely to plan a sell-off and that the remaining programs will continue to operate on the market for as long as possible without investing in further development." If true, not good news at all., but typical with "investment" buyouts.

I believe and am happy that Vegas Pro is in good hands. I had the same uneasy feeling with the "investors" bought Magix that I had when it was done over at Corel. The beginning of the end.

@Reyfox Times change. I'm under the impression that Gen Alpha doesn't even own or use a PC anymore. At some point anybody who wants certain software will own it and then the market is saturated and you cannot sell enough to keep development funded. You don't need Vegas to cut a one minute social media video. Most Corel software is decades old as well and they often sell a lot of it on Humble Bundle for next to nothing. Magix currently has a Humble Bundle as well.

I think that BorisFX tries to sell a service or ecosystem more than just an end consumer software. But we will need to wait and see what happens in the long run. They might reach the same situation in the future and sales could be much lower than expected.

@SP. I was a alpha/beta tester for Pinnacle Studio, Videostudio Pro and Paintshop pro for over a decade, so have a lot of insight of what happened, especially with Pinnacle Studio where the PM was a good person. And while you don't need a computer and all the software to cut a 1 minute cellphone video, eventually, those that get the "video editing bug" move up to software to be able to produce what only can be done on a computer. When Avid bought Pinnacle Studio, Pinnacle was worth more than Avid at that time. Avid fell on hard times, but did product Avid Studio with new programming, which later become "Pinnacle Studio" (the Pinnacle Studio name was used from V9-15 before Avid Studio). Corel bought Pinnacle software ($18mill IIRC), but again, being an "insider", those that were programming were no longer in Mountain View, but Germany, then Ukraine and finally ending up in China. Programmers that knew the software were let go. So "we" were stuck with software that had features, but were problematic in working as they should. Then, Alludo came in with huge promises, but that was all propaganda to keep sales going. That was the end. I saw the writing on the wall and was glad I had moved to another editing software.

Boris FX is an industry standard effects company that high end video software editors use. The price of its products does limit its use with "casual" users, but there is no denying, the packages are extremely impressive in what they can do. I've been a Continuum Complete user for over 9 years. An OFX plugin that didn't function well in VPX/VDL, but works in Nuke, Resolve, Vegas, Avid, After Effects, Final Cut and Premiere. You can't produce software with issues where professionals will complain. And they constantly update their software. Boris FX have had a long relation with Vegas Pro going back over a decade. I guess the purchase price is something they could handle, and they know the plugin side of the software. And they kept the Vegas programmers, who are now also working with Boris AI programmers. As an example, Continuum was used in Everything Everywhere All At Once movie.

I just looked at the VPX16 Humble Bundle, that has been on sale for quite a long time, yet only 749 packages have been sold. Depressing. Glad I bought it myself.

I do hope that there is life left in Magix with the sales of the higher end music and video software, and that further development would continue, but I do think that Boris Yamnitsky does know what is going on since he was in contract talks with Magix/RM Equity Partners, and I am sure the subject of other Magix software were talked about.

Thanks for the update. As I wrote, I've always been suspect of buyouts. But with the sale of several software to Boris FX, I really, really do hope that things here will improve for the better.
