@katherine-clark

Katherine, could you tell us what program name and version you're using. Help>About will have the details.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

@katherine-clark

Thanks, you're in the right place. We'll need a lot more info though.

Freezes

What files do you have on the timeline and what are you trying to do with them eg dragging the play marker along, adding an effect or trying to export.

Program does not save projects

This is done by File>Save Project. Could you explain what indications you are getting to conclude it's not saving.

one screen is partly offset from the desktop unusable

You can reset the program layout to Standard by Window>Window Arrangement>Standard. If that doesn't fix it, tell us what your screen resolution is eg 1920x1080. A screenshot showing the partial offset would be great.

If you're new to Magix, I'd strongly suggest you look at some of the tutes linked-to at the top of this screen, as well as peruse the Help manual (there's a PDF manual available on the Help menu too).

 two advertisements open each time I access the program

From a recent post by one of our moderators, @johnebaker:

"Uninstall Magix Cloud Import, also known as Update Notifier, Magix Cloud, Connect or Magix Network Sync depending on the version installed.

Also turn on the Hide news option in the Program settings. System tab."

Lastly, it will help if you provide details of your system eg processor designation and graphics card.

Also, we're fellow users here. Magix staff don't participate in the forum.

@katherine-clark

I would fully endorse and underline this from @AAProds

it will help if you provide details of your system eg processor designation and graphics card.

This post will show you the level of detail which we, fellow-users, need if we are to ahve any chance at all of helping you!

My suspicion is that your computer may be "under-powered" for the demands of this software.

[[MENTION:undefined]] 🙋‍♂️ Press the Windows key & Shift & S all at the same time, the screen will go darker & options will appear at the top of the screen, you can select an area of the screen, for instance your pic above, this will then get put in the Windows Notification bottom right of your screen, open it & save,

A pic of the CPU tab is needed or go to the bottom of your screen, right click Taskmanager - Performance tab, choose the CPU at the top, enlarge the window so it shows all devices on the left, like this

& what version of Windows are you using , Windows 10?
