No video after upgrade to 2021 Movie Edit Premium Plus

Jimmy-Ellis wrote on 8/29/2020, 12:10 PM

I upgraded to 2021 Premium from 2020 Movie Edit Premium Plus , now none of my videos are displaying (Preview or in timeline). I hear sound but no video. Need help asap. Just discovered that .avi videos are working but not .mov or mp4 I reloaded the MPEG-4 codec and reinstalled QuickTime but it is still not working for MP4 and MOV files. Images and AVI display just fine. I did install extra content. I can't revert to the older verson.  This is very frustrating as I still have projects to complete. I cannot reach support (sent an email). Any help is really appreciated. I am ready to buy a different product to complete my work.

Hey Jimmy! Did you get any joy? Had a similar issue. Video appears as normal when I play it from the import window. When I import it, it's gone all wonky! Also paid for another codec activation code but message appears saying it's already installed! Really need it fixed asap as got a deadline for Monday!

Hi,

Try this. Program settings, Display options, change Video Mode to something else, like Compatibility Mode.

Thanks John. That did not work for me. On the image all MOV and MP4 do not preview in the Import window or in the Timeline and they do not display when I play my project. AVIs work so it seems like a codec issue. Not sure why 2020 worked perfectly then after the upgrade problems.

Hi Jimmy. Alison.

If that is an old project maybe the new improvement of knowing which way the video should be shown is getting mixed up with the the old settings of the project.

If Alison can do the same and it works, then if not a bug, then an incomparability problem with older projects.

If it is an incompatibility problem Alison and you have not yet uninstalled MEP 2021 try right clicking on the offending files and selecting 'Video effects' and then selecting' Reset video effects' and see if that clears the problem. If it doesn't work do not resave the project when you close it.

Dear Mr. Ellis,

since we use a new technology for hardware encoding during playback in our latest programs and have activated this feature by default, older graphic cards may have problems with it.

This is probably the case with you. But you can solve this problem by just deactivating this feature via "File > Settings > Program..." Then open the "Import/Export" tab and uncheck "Hardware acceleration for playback if possible"

Now it should work.

Hi Jimmy.

That is actually something I had not considered. I was using an older graphics card myself not so long ago and having that ticked had always worked before the latest update. Looking at the cards specs apparently it can't take advantage of all of the Direct X 12's features. Something to do with pixel shaders.
