Hi there, first time here.
Since many versions ago of I'm noticing a very annoying issue. Everytime I press the space bar, VPX takes a few seconds to start playback. At first I thought my PC was very slow, but recently I upgraded my motherboard, CPU (i7 11st generation) and RAM (DDR4 32gb) and the problem still exists.
Some ideas why is this happening? (VPX 19.0.1.123)

This is quite normal, the time taken to start playing the rendered image is dependent on several factors.

The full specification would help - see this topic for details of what is required and please quote the processor and graphics card/chipset make/ model in full.
A screenshot of the Program Settings, Device options tab would also help.
What resolution is the source video and what effects, collages etc are applied to the video on the timeline?

Motherboard Gigabyte Z590 AORUS PRO AX
Intel Core 11th Gen i7 11700 - 2.50GHz
32Gb DDR4 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 - 6GB
SSD System Drive
Windows 11 Pro
The video project is 01:07:43 - 1920x1280 25 frames - H.264 MPEG-4 AVC - One stereo Audio Track - 48.000 Hz.
No effects applied, only playback.

Hi.
Just lower the audio buffer count to 2. An audio buffer of 6 is overkill for one audio track and not needed. The more buffers the more audio is loaded directly into ram ahead of playback and is the main cause of delay between pressing play and stop buttons and clips playing.

I've applied the changes you suggested. I didn't make any difference.
As I said before, even with default settings and older hardware, I've never had this issue with previous versions. May be I will have to get back to the old ones... or change software... 😟

If you are not gaming on this PC, are you using the Nvidia Studio Drivers (SD) ? If not I would suggest you update to these drivers - they are designed for video/graphics work and are more stable than the Game Ready Drivers (GRD). The latest version 472.39 (30.0.14.7239) for your GTX 1060 are here.

One to two seconds. (It might look normal, but it never happen before... and it's very annoying)

I've tried all the possibilities. (CPU; NVIDIA GeForce & Microsoft WARP Device). No difference.
If you are not gaming on this PC, are you using the Nvidia Studio Drivers (SD) ? If not I would suggest you update to these drivers
I've update the hardware last week. Windows 11 fresh install and all the components with the latest drivers.
Hi. You don't mention the Intel GPU in the settings list.
Does this mean you are only using one or two monitors running one of both off of the nvidia card only?
Both GPUs should really be in play for best performance and enabled in the bios of your motherboard.
Another possibility is you have the project files on the C: drive rather than a separate drive but at present I am more interested in if both GPUs are enabled and show up in the program settings

I'll try that ASAP.
EDIT: I've enabled the Intel UHD Graphics 750 driver in the BIOS and tested it in VPX. It was even slower than the NVidia one. I only use one monitor (1680x1050), so no need to use both graphic drivers.
What type of drive are the source video files on ?
Two HDs on the PC. Both SSD.
Hate to say, but you are incorrect for best performance. The infusion engine needs to use both for best performance and both need enabling. Look up 'Headless ghost' to put into your unused GPU and activate it.

Well, probably you are right, but please, I'm not talking about a session with 10 cameras in 4k, 20 different audio tracks with plug-ins. It's just an 1080p video playback. How much performance do I need?
I hate to compare because I love VPX, but even Adobe Premiere, which uses a lot of resources, doesn't have that delay.
It could be a difference between Windows 10 and 11 but I doubt it as @johnebaker has a Windows 11 install I think but I am on Win 10 as the specs page does not cite verification for Win 11 yet.. I'm editing 4K footage using the Infusion engine 3 with no playback delay and no need of proxy files until I start to add effects and running more than a few tracks, and in theory at least my system is not as powerful as your own.
Each program I assume has its own method of dealing the editing processes and setups differ.
I have the program residing on my NV-Me M.2 C: drive. The projects and files reside reside on another SSD drive and the exports go to a third internal SATA WD black drive.
My program settings have the nvidia GPU set for Import, Export, and Processing and yet the Intel GPU is still pressed into service.

I have temporarily held off the upgrade as I have seen some reports that would indicate there may be an issue with programs running slower on some machines. Initially there was an issue with AMD processors which has been fixed by AMD., however Intel based PC's have also been affected in some cases - it looks like it is related to certain hardware combinations and background processes.
I am using 'mechanical' hard drives and the playback starts within < 1 sec even for complex projects.
VPX does run better for me with both GPUs active, even though the 3 Device options settings are set to my RTX 2060 the Intel iGPU is also used.
@ToTo23 - to clear up a few potential issues:
Which Nvidia drivers you are using are they the GRD or Studio drivers?
Have you tweaked the Windows page file size or is it set to let Windows manage it?
Is your antivirus, which one, set to do 'Scan on demand'?

I believe they are GDR drivers, but I've never had problems with that driver and previous versions of VPX before.
I'll try VXP v12 ASAP and see what happens.

All default settings. So Windows manages it.

I give up guys. Thanks a lot for your help, time and support but I think it's time to move to some other software that works better with my hardware. I did my best but it didn't work out. I'm uninstalling right now.

That would suggest the issue is with the computer not VPX - the most obvious candidates being Windows 11 followed by your AV.

Relatively speaking, yes. I would not assume that the issue exists only in one direction.
I don't believe it has something to do with Windows 11 though.
I fully agree with you, ToTo23.
Incomprehensible delays even on AVI files is a VERY bad topic. Windows-11 migration advice is NOT acceptable. Let us, gentlemen - developers, look at our recordings from screens, where there are terrible brakes on your software, and then you will advise something to someone.

Unfortunately, your first post here could be seen as a rant, something which is not allowed by the Community rules. Please do not post in this manner again.
If you want the help of other users please tell us a lot more about your computer (see this post for the level of detail we need, including the precise model number of your CPU and any separate GPU) along with the exact version and build of VPX which you have.
With that information we may be able to suggest possible solutions for you.
My computer spec is in my signature, running the latest release of VPX13 and I don't see any sort of delay to the start of playback.

Good day to all. There is a problem. The problem is in the playback of the AVI files. The image "jerks" ("skips", "lags") when played in VPX. AVI is still a VERY IMPORTANT component of many programs. For example, MAGIX Designer Pro X can save animation to an .AVI file. Such a file can have a "transparent" background, which is VERY important to SAVE when editing video. VPX is now very NUDE about this AVI format. It is necessary for the developers to look at and fix these shortcomings.
