Program hangs hard when trying to access program settings.

Movie Edit Pro v20.0.1.73 (UDP3)

Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit, 16GB Ram, Intel i7 @1.9GHz

File -> Settings -> Program hangs Movie Edit Pro so hard, that it cannot be killed from Task Manager. The window then can't be moved or minimized, and nothing available can kill it. The only solution is to reboot the machine.

Since installing, this has never worked right. So far, I have tried running MEP in Administrator mode, and I've also tried running it with Win 8. Compatibility mode. I have tried disabling my anti-virus software. Neither of those helps.

Anything else I can try?

Hi Steve and Welcome to the user to user forums.

Looking at this thread and your other thread topic I'm assuming you are running a Lenovo ThinkPad T480s - 14" - Core i7 8650U - 16 GB ram machine. While it ticks virtually every box but one of the required minimum specifications of running MEP 2021 v20.0.1.73 it falls short on one. Namely the base clock frequency of the CPU which should be 2.4GHz. Whether this is that significant or not I couldn't tell but would assume the CPU is running at full pelt all the time when running Movie Edit Pro and may not be keeping up, and possibly throttling back if heat can't be dissipated from the CPU.

Whether this would cause a lockup of the system or not I couldn't say. I don't think running in compatibility mode will help. Try setting Windows / Settings / System / Graphics settings / Graphics performance preference / Choose an app / Browse, to set preference and add MAGIX Video Deluxe Plus from Local Disc C: Program Files / MAGIX / Movie Edit Pro (whichever version you have) and add the videodeluxe.exe file . Then select Power Saving from the selected modes available.

Then see if MEP will run more smoothly and can then open your program settings.

Ray.

@CubeAce thanks for the tip. I just tried that and it hung again. After hard-rebooting the computer, and restarting the program again, the settings now come up. Maybe now I can find something in there to help solve my audio problems.

@Steve-Southwell

In the setting I have just asked you to apply in Windows there is another option within those graphics settings of 'Let Windows decide', which in your instance may work better (or not). The setting that definitely won't help you is 'High Performance' as it may tax your CPU too much. You can only try 'Let Windows decide' and see if it helps or hinders. The 'Power Saving' option was the safest option to try first.

As for the audio problem, that again may be down partially to the lack of the CPU clock speed trying to push too much data through at a time if altering the audio buffers doesn't help as mentioned in your other topic.

Hi

Is the computer you are using the one @CubeAce mentioned - if not which model is it and what is the computer specification - see this topic for details required?

. . . .  nothing available can kill it. The only solution is to reboot the machine . . . .

This would suggest there is a Windows or hardware issue - see this tutorial items 3 to 11 to check your Windows system is OK.
