Program is unresponsive/can no longer open project files

Robyn-Kitty wrote on 1/8/2022, 11:14 AM

I am currently using Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium 2022.

I am no longer able to edit videos as, when I attempt to make any sort of edit to a project, the program freezes and becomes unresponsive, usually when playing back the video. I can only exit the program through Task Manager. The video is usually only a few minutes long with only an audio file and a few clips. They aren't large projects. In addition to that, I can no longer open some of my projects as the program tells me it can not open that file format. I made the project in Magix and it won't let me open it.

I've tried running as an administrator, but that does not help.

Please help me. I've been using this program for years and now I can't.

@Robyn-Kitty

Hi

Can you complete the computer specification, there are some necessary details missing - see this topic for what is required. I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

A screen shot of the Program settings, Device options tab would also help.

. . . . I've been using this program for years and now I can't. . . .

Was MEP 2022 working and then stopped - if so what changed on the computer eg Windows update, change of Antivirus etc.

If this is a new installation/upgrade are you getting any error messages - if so what do they say - screenshots would help?

I tried to add my specifications to my signature, but I'm not sure if I did it right. (I'm new. Sorry.)

The only difference from when the program was working to now, maybe, was when I had to factory reset my computer and reinstall/reregister the program and put the backed up files back in their places. I am no longer the administrator of my computer, but I've tried running as administrator and that makes no difference.

I tried defragmenting my hard drive as well, so I don't think that's the problem.

Basically, I will put soundless video clips on top of a single audio file. When I press play to view the project so far, it will sometimes play only for the audio to continue for a bit and the video to pause when I hit stop. The program then becomes unresponsive and can only be closed with Task Manager.

This is when I create a newer file. When I try to use a previous file, even one made yesterday, I will get the unable to read error.

So the program either doesn't read my files, or freezes on playback and becomes unusable.

(Please let me know if there's more information I can give to help.)

Update: Now it freezes whether or not I play it back. I tried to increase the speed of a clip and the whole program froze. It seems to be random.

@Robyn-Kitty

Hi Robyn.

You appear to have everything on one hard drive. Operating system, program, and project files. This is probably too much data being read and written at once for the drive to cope with. You would also need a a fair amount of free space on the drive to it to move files around to temp folders while the program is running.

You may also want to read this article. Primarily it was produced for Magix Vegas users but it is also relevant for All Magix (and other) video editing products.

You don't have to be the administrator as long as you have administrator rights.

Ray.

There never has been any requirement for a separate drive for MEP to run smoothly.

If MEP won't even open one of it's own MVPs, IMO there is something is fundamentally wrong with the new installation/version, especially given that it used to work OK.

@Robyn-Kitty Robyn, try a Reset to Default:

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Hi

. . . . I tried to add my specifications to my signature, but I'm not sure if I did it right. . . .

Thanks for doing this, however there is still a lot of superfluous information. See my Signature for the data needed.
