Selective Blur

mkro wrote on 10/13/2020, 6:33 PM

Video Pro 7 had an effect that allowed edge blur while keeping a selected area of the frame in focus. The blur pattern could also be adjusted radially (keeping a selected region in focus), horizontally, vertically (each with a band of selectable width kept in focus.) This was a great tool for directing the eye to certain parts of the frame. Where is this effect in Video Pro X?

Hi

. . . . had an effect that allowed edge blur while keeping a selected area of the frame in focus. The blur pattern could also be adjusted radially (keeping a selected region in focus), horizontally, vertically (each with a band of selectable width kept in focus.) . . . .

AFAICR this was a third party plugin to achieve the adjustments as described, which is no longer available.

You can achieve a similar effect as shown below, once added and the mask has been ungrouped from the image/video you can use Size and Position, 3D Distortion, Rotation effects etc to adjust the mask as you require.

Note:

  1. after ungrouping the mask you will see I adjusted the direction of the Alpha mask to ensure the centre of the mask was masking out the blur effect.

  2. This was done using Movie Edit Pro, however it is the same for VPX

  3. If you wish to animate masks see this tutorial.
