Should I choose Video Pro X or Vegas Pro?

ericlnz. Please tell what settings you use when you export .m2ts from Vegas Pro

@ghijohansson I've replied on the Vegas forum.

ghijohansson wrote on 5/9/2025, 10:05 AM

Dear friends.

I plan to upload 2 files. One unedited about 30 seconds long. 24 Mbps.
Another edited in with Premiere Elements version 12. 84 seconds and 30 Mbps.
So you can check.
But not today. I have a new PC so Thunderbird and my email folders are almost the only things I have already transferred.
I would need to check what accounts I have so it is easier for me to ask my friend the computer genius that he uploads. Which may take a week.

About exporting .m2ts with Magix Movie studio. Here is the list with supported export formats, and sice .m2ts is mentioned, I didn't realize : AVI, DV-AVI, MJPEG, MPEG-2/4 (HEVC/H.265)1, AV1, WMV

Can-Dive wrote on 5/9/2025, 5:49 PM

@ghijohansson

To access the .m2ts codec (AVCHD), its grouped under MPEG4. I have a Panasonic camcorder that shoots .m2ts and have no issues with Movie Studio so I don't think you have anything to worry about. MMS2025 is currently on sale at a great price and in my honest opinion it's the best value for money video editor globally compared to commercial and "free" editors available. It has so many features and is very easy to learn. Plus, you have a great bunch of people on this Forum willing to help you if you have any questions. 😀

@ericlnz,

Has the disc creation issue in VP 21/22 been fixed, the last comment I can find would suggest the burn disc feature is not going to be available?

@johnebaker I'm not sure. It's there in my VP21 but I don't know about VP22. I've never used it as I've used DVDA for years, even before I started using VMS. Nowadays I only burn the occasional Blu-ray disc. Among my video friends disc burning has almost disappeared as we use more convenient thumbdrives.

Gid wrote on 5/9/2025, 7:47 PM

@johnebaker @ericlnz Is this the one your thinking of?. I haven't used it & haven't burnt a disc for nearly 20yrs when first playing with MEP.

It is, as you say, 'not sure' if the issue has been fixed.

Thanks for further comments. This is clearly a nice forum.

And Can-Dive, I understand what you mean with Movie Studio a great editing program, but we all have different goals. And it takes a while to check the differences between programs. So I don't decide this evening what I will buy.

Can-Dive wrote on 5/10/2025, 7:38 PM

@ghijohansson

Absolutely take your time. I empathise because I was exactly in your shoes last year. In the end I purchased all three programs! All three are excellent, targeted to different market segments. So, I'm not biased for or against any of these video editors. It really depends on the type of editor you are and your needs. Also, members of both forums are very helpful and will bend over backwards to help you.

The analogy I like to use is baking a cake. What type of baker are you now and what type of baker do you want to be in the future? You can go to a grocery store and buy a box of cake mix or you can bake a cake from scratch. In the end you baked a cake. MMS/VPX are for those who like buying a box of cake mix because it's easy to do and the cake tastes great! Vegas Pro is for those who like to bake from scratch. Initially, it takes more knowledge and time to complete but once you really get to know the process, you become very efficient in baking cakes.

Over this past year, I've been using MMS/VPX to "bake" my videos and slideshows. The software has wizards and templates to help me along, so it doesn't take too long to produce my video cake. At the same time, I'm slowly learning Vegas Pro to bake from scratch.

This is not to say you cannot bake from scratch using MMS/VPX; you can. Likewise, you can certainly produce a video using Vegas Pro from the start - it's not that difficult. It's just that I like the convenience of MMS/VPX. That is the type of baker I am, and my audience don't know how I baked my videos; they just enjoy consuming them!

Good Luck!

I apologize that you were forced to wait. Here comes a link.

The zip folder contains 3 files.

The longest one is the trailer for one of my no-budget films, with me as the nutty psychiatrics doctor. 50i. The bit rate for that file is 30 Mbps, but when I put it in the zip folder it was compressed 30 %.
while the 2 smaller files were hardly compressed at all. The bigger one is in 50i. The smallest file shows what I plan to film for my new Project. 25p for a doll movie which largely will be created by using stop motion animation in front of a greenscreen. But still .m2ts.

OK, transcoding to .mp4 will hardly result in any loss of quality. Not even if I make the transcoded files slightly smaller. So it would hardly hurt me if I in the future edit .mp4 with 20 Mbps instead of .m2ts with 24 Mbps.

Yes, I know, it took me a week to understand what more experienced people told me. Because I am that kind of person who "checks everything".

So my problem is presumably solved for those cases when I edit 25p. Import .m2ts 25p and export .mp4 25p. Hardly any loss of quality. But still, what do I do with my 50i video files. There are freewares for transcoding, and they will in all probability continue to support .m2ts 50i. Even though nobody right now has asked me to send my files, I have to know what to do if I must suddenly send a file to somebody who can't handle .m2ts.

Transcoding 50i to both 25p and 50p is possible. I better be prepared for both alternatives.

I found the statement that QTGMC is the best free deinterlace filter but since I am ignorant about deinterlacing, I have no idea if this is correct.

@ghijohansson I get an "access denied". Maybe because I disabled my own One Drive.

ghijohansson wrote on 5/13/2025, 12:20 PM

Oops. Well, if more people have the same problem, I will have to ask my friend the computer genius what to do.

@Reyfox I signed in to Microsoft but still get an error msg 'something went wrong'.

@ghijohansson Upload the files to Google

1. Open Google, top right is a sq of dots - Open Google Drive.
2. Drag that video onto the Google Drive window, let it upload.
3. Right click on the file on screen - Share.
4. A window will pop up, General Access - choose 'Anyone with the link' - Copy link.
5. Then on here in a new comment at the top there's a chain button, paste the link on there

point 6 is wrong.

After choosing 'Anyone with a link', make sure you also choose 'Edit' or we will still not be able to download it. Only view or comment on the files.

It will only be a copies of your files that can be shared / downloaded, so your originals on your PC are safe. The files within the google space are not effected as again, we get copies of those files.

Actually I can. Oops maybe?

My comment was based on people I send folders to have complained in the past they could not download my files and have always had to make the folder 'editable' before they could. I use Google drive about twice a week for that.

But back to the OP, do they have Google Drive which also comes with a Gmail account?

Reyfox wrote on 5/14/2025, 11:52 AM

@ghijohansson that was easy! I have the 3 files. Specifically, what do you want me to do with them.

ghijohansson wrote on 5/14/2025, 12:11 PM

Can-Dive was the first person here to suggest that I upload. Then johnebaker. Do whatever you want. The edited file is on Vimeo.

And I forgot to tell. The 25p file has in practice no sound because no microphone was connected. I forgot to tell because I forgot this when I uploaded. When I filmed, I simply did a short test, so no need to connect the microphone.

I checked how my .m2ts files are coded. They follow the AVC codec for video and while the audio is Dolby AC-3 stereo. That is what the camcorder delivers. I also checked the uploaded file created by my old video editing program. Same, so I hope all my video .m2ts files follow this video format.
