Simplitec Socket Update error

TS-Choo wrote on 12/1/2020, 7:38 AM

Hi Support,

Recently, I have been getting the simplitec update socket error everytime I launch Movie Edit Pro. Reinstallation of the application does not help to solve the problem. I don't have Simplitec installed on my system. Please refer to the error prompt screenshot attached.

Hi and welcome.

This is not tech support but a user forum. There are no Magix support staff here.

I have not personally ever seen this before but maybe another use has and can comment on what might be wrong.

If you need tech support you must email Magix. Try using the email address that came with your activation code to contact them with.

Thank you CubeAce. I am a little disappointed that my search for Magix technical support all landed with self-service help. There is no formal channel to log a support call except the sale department email. This reduces my confidence and image perception of the company.

Hi TS-Choo.

I have always found they reply within a day or two and before the latest social problems they have replied sooner.

A lot of companies are like this now. Forums set up to divert most of the common problems to other users with more experience. I think Fuji were one of the first to trial that type of help. Another way to find help quickly seems to be to complain on their official twitter feed. That has many more visitors and is more in the public domain. It wouldn't surprise me to find a lot of them working from home right now.

So lost in the ethic forum debate... no one has offered a solution to the problem... I have that error since December 2020. It prompts each time I turn on the PC. There is an extra error from qnetwork.

Anyone have a solution to this problem?

Hi.

As I stated at the beginning of the replies, this is a user to user forum.

As users we can only help if something has been a known reported error in the past that we can offer a solution to.

I suggest that as no-one appears to have replied to this problem yet that no-one here has had this particular problem themselves or has bothered to report back if they had.

Your best bet is to raise a ticket with support and if possible please report back here with their reply so we know for future reference.

Check simplitec is not installed on pc by going to control panel.add remove programs.

also check on regedit, click edit, find file and type simplitec. delete it, it was on my pc, cheers.

Simplitec is generally a free add on program part of software installations and its usually mentioned with a tick applied to it as part of a general installation.

For all that care about this issue. I logged a ticket and support told me don't bother it will get resolved soon. The problem is known. That was early Dec 2020. Until today, I am still getting the same error as @Zaza_from_Johor. Please do something at your end Magix. This is very annoying and unprofessional.

@PATIENT-X Over the last two years, simplitec was giving me some issues. When I change my PC, I did not install it. This issue is not relevant to simplitec. It's Magix Movie Edit Pro issue when we launch the program everytime.

Dear Choo,

Thank you for your message. This problem is already known and will be fixed very soon. It has no effect on your program. The error is connected to your Update Notifier program and not Movie Edit Pro so at this point you can just ignore it. We are sorry for any inconveniences.

I'm getting the same error message for the past few months and it's so annoying I've even uninstalled all the Magix video editing software off my PC to try and get rid of it and yet every time I start up it's there. So annoying they haven't bothered to fix this problem yet seeing as these posts go back to 2020 - Magix is just not good enough for the price you pay for their video editing software, firstly you get annoying messages all the time advertising new products even though I opted out of these messages - and I'd already bought the stuff they were trying to sell me - what a scam!! (I might add that's a serious GDPR breach and possibly even makes Magix adware - surprised ESET doesn't recognise it as such), but now these error messages and who the heck is simplitec and why did Magix think it's ok to hide this bug ridden software in their product when I'm paying you £55.99 a year for this rubbish. My renewal is up in August and I've since switched to Creative Cloud so hopefully I can find someway of getting shut of this message and being rid of Magix for good - I thought Magix were a professional video editor, clearly not - just another scam adware filled product >:(

Darren-Forster wrote on 4/29/2021, 2:17 AM

Ok so I've managed to get rid of it - it's not in programs as "Simplitec" it's under the name "Update Notifier" doesn't even have Magix in the name so it's really hard to find in the search add/remove programs list - in future Magix you might want to call it something obvious containing either your name or simplitecs name not just "update notifier"

@Darren-Forster

Hi Darren and welcome to the user to user forums.

This topic has been dealt with on this forum before and we would have gladly helped you avoid such popups had you posted a help topic.

There are no Magix staff active on the forum, just users, so Magix will not be aware of your comments.

While I agree the term 'Pro' may be banded around a bit too much in various packages from a variety of providers it refers to feature sets rather than any endorsement by a professional body. The real Pro package from Magix is VPX and not Movie Edit Pro. That, as far as I'm aware is used by some production houses where the colour grading and audio level tools would be suitable for broadcast applications.

Thanks for the reply CubeAce although I would expect any decent company to be monitoring things like their user forums for problems they need to fix - most companies tend to monitor fan sites and forums for potentially serious issues and try and rectify them as it's their reputation at stake if they don't fix it quickly (I worked for two companies that had policies that if employees spotted anything bad on fan forums about the brand the companies would expect staff (and staff of companies working with them - I worked for a company that worked with them) to notify them so they could see if it was an issue and try and rectify it, not just say it's on a fan forum so it doesn't matter. Also regardless of which is the "pro package" whether it's VPX or Movie Edit Pro at £55.99 for a piece of software I don't expect them to have such disregard for their customers (at the end of the day they've lost one £55.99 thanks to this issue and I certainly wouldn't recommend them to anyone else looking for video editing software until they sort their attitude out) - one of the companies we worked with had two brands - a premium car brand and a budget car brand and it didn't matter whether the fault was only on the budget or premium brand if it was serious it was usually looked into and dealt with very quickly, and that brand of car has a reputation for being one of the most reliable cars.

Also as for the pop-up adverts - I followed all the directions that Magix sent me by e-mail to remove the ads and the ads were still there - under GDPR ads are only allowed to be shown on an opt-in basis - when installing the software I did not opt-in to have them pester me every time I turn my computer on to buy something which I'd already purchased. Eventually, the only way I could turn them off was to uninstall all of Magix software except Travel Maps - even if there was just one click button to disable the ad on the ad itself like "do not show this again" that would be good - but the directions Magix were giving me was to disable it in one part of the software, then disable. Even LibreOffice doesn't force adverts on customers like this - and that just relies on donations!

Hi Darren.

I am sorry for your poor user experience and frustration but personally I have not suffered the same experience as yourself and do not suffer from the existence of unwanted popups as the video below will demonstrate.

I would not personally describe myself as a fan, just a user who is also sometimes critical of some aspects of the user experience of the programs, but often these can be remedied with help from other forum users with more experience. While your problem is obviously upsetting to you and you have the right to feel upset, do not please think others suffer the same way or are in fact annoyed at it. Personally my version is only set to remind me when my renewal date is about to come up which I find useful. The same as my car reminds me when a service is needed. I can't turn that off either and reminds me each time I start the car once I'm within a certain mileage of the service requirement. Worse it informs my dealership and they phone me to book a service date. Was I warned of the feature before I bought it. No.

While Movie Edit Pro is not the 100% perfect package the advertising may lead people to believe and does not have warnings about their policies regarding how they promote their services, the options do exist to at least deactivate them even if it takes a visit here to ask for help. That I agree is not a perfect solution.

Ray.

@Darren-Forster

Hi

It would appear you are conflating several instances which have nothing to do with GDPR in relation to advertising and 'consent' to make a case to support your annoyance at 'ads'.

It is clear that you did not follow all the advice from Magix and here to remove the sources of the popups, and change setting in all the Magix programs you had installed.

. . . . even if there was just one click button to disable the ad on the ad itself like "do not show this again" that would be good . . . .

Did you not observe that the in program popups do have the check box - usually in the bottom left corner.

I would also suggest that you read the fine detail in the GDPR regulations regarding 'online advertising'.

. . . .  I've since switched to Creative Cloud . . . . at the end of the day they've lost one £55.99 thanks to this issue . . . .

Did you look at the difference between the Subscription models - with Magix products if you do not continue your Update Service the program continues working with the other
