"Sound Optimization", disappearing transitions, transition/music issue

Robert-Madison wrote on 8/18/2025, 4:18 PM

This is probably my 10th Photostory Deluxe slideshow (God, I miss Easy so much... a vastly superior program) and suddenly I have three brand new problems which I have never encountered before.

1) A "Sound Optimization" popup keeps hitting me all the time. How do I prevent this from happening?

2a) and 2b) When you add a new piece of background music, you can pull it to the left so the previous existing piece will transition into the new piece. A very nice feature. Except suddenly, today it also drags the image above it to the left, meaning the previous image has less time on the screen. It also eliminates any existing slide-slide transition that came between those two slides. I can find no way to replace the vanished slide-slide transition (dragging a new transition down from the menu does nothing; it vanishes immediately).

Any clues as to how to fix these issues?

Thanks.

Hi

With respect to the 'Sound optimization' message need more information in order to help you:

  • Photostory version, your previous topic referred to Photostory Deluxe 2021

  • Computer specification, see this topic for what is required

Items 2a suggests you have the mouse mode set to 'Attach objects in all tracks', his will be blue as shown in the image below.

Select the Single object mode indicated in yellow.

item 2b issue should disappear after selecting the single object mode.

That solved the problem! Thanks!

@Robert-Madison

Great to hear the issues are resolved and thanks for the feedback.

However, John's advice was primarily concerned with the Object Mode selection. Did that also resolve the Sound problem or was there something else you did to correct this?

I ask because this specific sound issue is not one that I can recall seeing before and it may help other users in the future if they encounter it to learn how it was resolved for you.

Thanks.

Jeff,

Glad to follow up. The "Sound Optimization" popup seems to have disappeared on its own... I'm crossing my fingers. But one issue buried with the others was not resolved: The Object Mode selection change you recommended did fix the soundtrack issues, but there is still the problem of transitions between slides disappearing. That didn't get solved I was unable to add transitions between a couple of slides (I ended up just burning the project to DVD anyway).

Hi

. . . . the problem of transitions between slides disappearing . . . .

Does this occur to a particular transition type, eg crossfade, or all transitions.

What action makes them disappear?

After moving an object away from its neighbour with which a transition between the 2 has been applied, the transitions of the 2 objects will revert to the default Cut.
