Hi

Assuming you are transferring the DCR HC96 video using Firewire, the process is the same as for MEP 2017, the only difference in VDL 2026 is the recording dialog device selection interface is different, for recording by Firewire select the option indicated in the image below.

If you are recording from the DCR HC96 then use the button to the left of that indicated above.

If neither of the above then we need more information on how you are getting the video recordings onto the PC.

In addition the specification of your computer system including Windows version may help, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full, and does the computer have a FireWire port?

I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

sorry, it doesnt work. My computer OS win10, it working well with old Movie Edit Pro. I deleted the Video deluxe 2026 Pro, reinstallated the Video deluxe 2026 Premium, but , vhen I want capture from DCR,, I have a message.

Of course, , the DCR connected by FireWire, as I wrote, the capture working by Movie Edit Pro..

Kernalbase.dll is shown as the faulting module in your error message. This is a core Windows file, not something specific to Video deLuxe, so I think you need to have your Windows installation checked.

To try to correct this, as a first step please follow the Microsoft instructions on this page.

More details on the FireWire device in/connected to the computer would help - make, model and driver version please.

I checked the PC based on the instructions provided, and Windows fixed all errors, but video capture still isn't working on the VDP. FireWire is functioning; I am able to capture video from the camera using a different application. I have attached the PC specifications.

What is the application that you are able to capture with?

When you open the DV recording dialog were you asked to download and install the MainConcept mpeg-2 codec? This is required for DV recording.

In the DV recording dialog, is the Firewire device driver available in the indicated (yellow) option

If available, do the blue indicated controls stop/start the camera?

If not, check Windows, Privacy & Security, Camera, Let desktop apps access your camera option is turned on.

The above image is from Windows 11, Windows 10 should be similar.

John, the MPEG 2 codec isn't required for DV recording, only HDV recording (not that the DV Recording option asks anyway).

I prefer using a third-party capture program as it gives the option to split the scenes into separate files and name them by date.

While Magix will split the scenes for you on capture, it still captures into one large AVI file which I find impractical from a file-management point of view, for example if you want to edit the files of a certain date. Your large Magix file may cover numerous dates, making it harder to edit by date.

With the old Movie Edit Pro, it works: I press the red "Record audio/video" (R) button, select the DV camera option, and the capture starts. With VDP 2026, however, if I press that same red button, an error message pops up. Why? I might be doing it all wrong—but then, how am I supposed to import from an external DV camcorder?

I don't know, my VDL 2026 captures DV with no problems. I just captured a test tape with both VDL 2026 and then Scenalyzer with no problems.

There must be a conflict somewhere; I wonder if it is between the three Magix programs?

I did try Debut a couple of years ago and it crashed each time.

Following on from my comment above, this is what is produced using Magix and Scenalyzer to capture. You can see Scenalyzer has split up the capture into files with dates.

Do you mean the previously mentioned KernelBase error message, or is this a different error message?

it is the previously mentioned KernelBase error message. The same error occurred when I had Videodeluxe 2026 Plus installed on the machine as well. As I tried to explain, the Plus version was the one I had first; I shouldn't have downloaded the Premium version. Anyway, I have the Premium version now, but I want to use it to save the video file—I don't want to use yet another program for that.

An interesting return from Google AI. Do a Google Search for video deluxe DV capture results in a windows kernelbase error message

One of the suggestions is to swap the Windows Firewire driver to the Legacy driver. If you can't work it out, I have a guide for that here:

Unfortunately, Legacy didn't work out. Video Deluxe shows the same kernel-based error message, while Movie Edit crashes after a few minutes, claiming the destination storage is full; however, Movie Edit works with the VIA driver.

To further illustrate the advantage of dated filenames, here's a snap of a DV project I am currently working on. I have a movie for each date, and I can easily see the dates on the files (from the file names) on the timeline (and in the Media Pool), making it very easy to group dates together.

Movie Edit Pro (MEP) 2017 works
Debut Video Capture (DVC) works
Legacy does not work

This is beginning to sound like VDL 2026 does not work with 32bit drivers. MEP 2017 did work with 32 bit device drivers, DVC is 32 bit software, and it is possible that the Legacy driver is also 32 bit.

Up to Windows 8 the 32 and 64 bit Legacy drivers would have been installed, however since Firewire was virtually abandoned about 10 years ago and is now considered obsolete, it may have deen deprecated by Microsoft

The 64 bit Legacy drivers are available for Windows 8 here, they may install on Windows 10, however do be aware that Microsoft are now disabling what it considers 'unsafe' / 'non compliant' drivers.

I tested VDL 2026 with a USB capture device, installing the 32 bit driver, VDL did not detect the device, nor did it appear in Device Manager. Installing the 64 bit driver the device was recognized and captured correctly
