Unable to update Pro X

DugsBugs wrote on 9/11/2017, 6:46 PM

I just wrote back to support and mentioned it.
I can't understand why functions that always worked in all other PX versions now don't work.
The point of an update is to make improvements not fix faults.
It's taken them 3 updates to get to this point and there are still issues.
I am yet to see a fully functioning Pro X out of the box.

Hi

I have no problems with the sliders, the sliders move, and the image changes, smoothly as they are adjusted.

IIRC there was a similar issue with some users of MEP which was related to the Display options setting, possibly with using NVidia or AMD (Radeon) graphics cards.

@DugsBugs

What is your computer specification - - processor make/model, graphics card or chipset, RAM,  hard drive configuration, sizes and free space?

Hi John.
Intel Processor 2.9gig, 16 gig ram, 2tb Hard drive with about 1.8tb free. Program is set to intel not amd.
My excitement was short lived, it is still causing too many issues. I will just stick with the first version until I sort it out.

@DugsBugs

The latest patch messed up my installation, similar to your problems and the same as the problem that I had several months ago. The activation code under about no longer appears and shows "0 days still remaining." I will raise this with Magix once again and let you know the outcome.

At least the program works and one of my problems, HDR gamma, was resolved on my Surface Pro; I don't know about my desktop computer yet, have to wait till I get home on the weekend.

@browj2

I have just done the 2nd factory restore because of this dog of a program. 2 days solid
They decided to send me a link to the intel driver updates but I am just about over it.
My serial did return to the box after I did a fresh install and removed all the old files from program files, program data and registry.
I don't know what the answer is but I know PX7 works well so I will keep using that one I think.

Hi John.
I7-7700T is the processor.
I.m going to try again with the new driver. Not getting too excited.

I was able to download the .176 patch from John CB's posted link. Too scared to install it now....!

As another German member said recently "This is chaos......!" Well that's how Google translated it anyway, but I have to agree.

Wise move I think Peter.
I have just installed the first version and sticking with that.
They fix one thing and stuff another.
I can live with the Rotate issue and hope it doesn't start crashing on me.

I think Magix seriously need to pull the updates until they get their act together.
This is my living.

Hi Doug

I think they already have, like Peter I am also holding off installing the patch. The big issue, as John CB has pointed out in his topic here, is that there is no way to roll back the updates.

Hi John.
The only way is to we install the program but you need to get rid of all the existing files.
Or if you have an early restore point on your system. But take it from me. It may still cause you problems.
Doug.

Agree entirely, the system restore was not intended to be used for programs, but, as its name suggests, is for the System ie the Windows installation.

Quote from Microsoft: 'System Restore lets you restore your Windows installation back to its last working state.'

@johnebaker

I ended up having to do a reset which leaves your files but re installs windows.
You then have to re do all your programs and set everything the way you want.
If you only have 1 Magix product on your system then it.s fairly easy to find the Magix folders to delete.
Program files
Program files x 86
Program Data, Magix
Registry , Magix
You can just try to reinstall to the original and it will go back to the early version but it still recognizes data stored on the system.
I've spent 3 full days on this nightmare. PX7 all the way

Hi Everyone.
Just an update on my situation at the moment.
After my 2nd factory reset, I wasn't going to install the .176 update again but realizing I couldn't do anything with version .56 I had nothing to lose. I couldn't even do basic things like DVD production so I found myself back using PX7.
After a few days of indecision, I installed the update that Magix support sent me so I didn't have to do 3 separate updates through the help menu and so far everything is going well.
I thought with all the extra on board effects, it was worth another go even if all I used it for was to mix down some effects.
The only crash I have had so far is with New Blue Drop shadow effect which doesn't bother me but I haven't tried them all..
I am going to put my trust in it slowly but so far it's looking good.
I don't know what the difference was between my last update and this one, maybe it was all the files stored in the system that I cleaned out after the reset.
Anyway, my advise is if you have PX7 to fall back on then give the update a go until they get the bugs sorted.
It's a pig anyway so you have nothing to lose. Eventually they will get it sorted.
Doug
