Video Pro X v.17.0.3.68 comes to a grinding halt

I was pleased to be able to purchase a copy of Video Pro X and was hoping it would be an alternative to the aging Lightworks software I have been using for some time. But within a minute or so of opening it, the software ground to a halt and would not respond. It seemed to be trying to download my entire Dropbox.

Where am I going wrong?

Very true, I am looking for a new laptop and trying to find the right one is a bit of a minefield, at the moment it looks like 2nd choice until I get feedback on whether the Intel GPU is permanently disabled.
