VPX Crashing when importing PNG File

DugsBugs wrote on 4/16/2019, 8:00 AM

Hi All.
I'm hoping someone can replicate this issue.
I have recently been trying to import PNG photo's and logos and every time, it causes VPX to crash.
I am currently using version 298 but I have installed 322 to my test laptop and the issue is still there.
VPX 7 is fine and the last time I was using logos I was having no issues.
It even crashes as soon as I open a folder in the media pool containing a PNG file.
I don't think it was an issue before 298 but I'm not sure how far I need to roll back.
I have 268,288 and 291 I can try.
Just another reason for me to go back to VPX 7 where there were minimal problems.
Doug.

@DugsBugs

Hi Doug

. . . . I have recently been trying to import PNG photo's and logos and every time, it causes VPX to crash . . . .

I have no issue with VPX 322 importing png files.

Are all the png files from the same source?

If so here is a png, that works for me, for you to test with.

Thanks John. I’ve shut the computer down so I’ll give it a try tomorrow. I have tried files from different places and they all cause crashing

@johnebaker
I have tried the PNG you sent with no luck.
It is definitely a program problem because it is doing the same on my windows 7 laptop.
Interesting that you are having no problem.
Looks like I will uninstall and start again at 268. I just risk what happened last time I did that, the program wouldn't load. The dreaded red X error box.

It's wonderful working with reliable, well tested software that just does everything it's advertised as doing, isn't it? Well it would be......... Eight broken months and counting.

Strange, I have no problems with png's on my desktop or laptop with VPX ...322.

I have reinstalled the program to version 268 and everything is good.
I have just completed an edit with no issues whatsoever.
I recently noticed my DVD encoding issues started at 298 and haven't been addressed in recent patches so I will stay with 268.
Interestingly,when I reinstalled 298 to my laptop, the PNG problem was fixed but there is no use using that version when I can't get smooth DVD.
My editing requirements don't change much so I don't need new bells and whistles, just a version that works and 268 seems to do that. Just a shame I have wasted money on an update service I can't use.

I have also the same problem with .png images on 322 release . Hoping for a quickly release of a patch or useful indications by Magix Service to resolve the bug.

DugsBugs wrote on 4/20/2019, 7:17 AM

You may need to create a ticket with support otherwise it will not get fixed.

I have found another bug on 322 release. Program crashes also using any Blurry-SpecialEffectTansitions

browj2 wrote on 4/23/2019, 10:16 AM

@gianfranco-cortellazzi

Just tried out several of the Blurry transitions under Effect Transitions Basic and they all work fine for me in 322. Are these the transitions that you are referring to?

No I'm referring to all Blurry:..... effects under SpecialEffectsTransitions not under Tansitions Basic

browj2 wrote on 4/23/2019, 10:58 AM

@gianfranco-cortellazzi

I don't have anything that says SpecialEffectsTransitions on either of my computers. I wrote "Effect Transitions Basic" not "Transitions Basic." See below:

Are these the ones that you are referring to? If not, please give us a screen shot and tell us where these came from.

They are the same. Somehow, Magix has a different title for the topic. Must be a regional thing. Mine work.

I have restailled 236 release on my PC and now are working both .png and these templates without program crashings. Obviously there is a probably bug in the 322 release.

DugsBugs wrote on 4/23/2019, 3:23 PM

I think the PNG problem started around 298.

I am using 268 with no problem.

shgrude wrote on 4/23/2019, 3:40 PM

@browj2

Would be interesting to know if @DugsBugs has same difference as @gianfranco-cortellazzi regarding template/effect nameing. I have 16.0.2.322 and can import .PNG (tryed the one provided by @johnebaker) without crashes and have same template/effect nameing as @browj2.

Could be useful info for debugging team by MAGIX.

@shgrude
No issues with templates with 268.
My position is to stick with a version that works for the work I do.
I very rarely use transition effects so I don't notice the problems.
When I think back, there were problems that started with the release of VPX 8 and many of them have never been addressed but I somehow work around them.
