When using ALT TAB, Magix Video Edit Pro does not get focussed (Windows 10)

I choose it in the list of thumbnails that appeares on ALT TAB, but then it does not show up frontend.

This bug is there for many months already. But I think now it's time to report it. :) Because it is absolutely annoying.

Then you should just do it. But not here, this is a user forum.

I can't confirm this issue, it works just the way it should.

Weird. I can only access it via the Windows taskbar on the bottom of the screen.

Alt + Tab does not focus it.

Even holding Alt + Tab (or WIN + Tab) and then clicking by mouse does not work (sometimes it does).

Here is a screenrecording to see this behavior:

https://www.mathelounge.de/?qa=blob&qa_blobid=15148540591669331833

It only happens with Magix Video Edit Pro.

→ Where to report the bug? I tried it here: https://support2.magix.com/customer/en/request but it says "Unfortunately your last registered product is too old." ... Could you report it for me? That would be appreciated.

CubeAce wrote on 8/15/2020, 4:04 AM

@Markus73 @ka1n0

Also can't replicate this behaviour.

How can the last registered version be too old? It is the current version.

What was your last registered version of the program and how are you running your current version without registering?

I don't understand what the Magix website is doing.

I have checked the Customer Area. Under Registered Products it shows the software I have bought. It says:

NewBlue Video Essentials 4 (64-Bit)    28.03.2017
HitFilm Superhero Pack    28.03.2017
Video deluxe Plus    28.03.2017

Obviously after 2 years Magix stops any technical support.

But gosh, this is a bug report. So in interest of all users.

CubeAce wrote on 8/15/2020, 4:52 AM

@ka1n0

Unfortunately to produce a bug report more than one user should really be able to reproduce the error. So far that has not happened. It can not be ruled out that somewhere it could be a problem related only to your system and as such may not be a problem with the software.

So you may have to wait for someone else to verify the problem first as I can't say to Magix that I can replicate and prove it and show evidence that there is at least two users with the same problem.

Sorry.

Hi

I also cannot replicate this issue.

I did have a similar issue previously, however it and couple of other issues I was having, which appear to have been a Windows issue, have been fixed with the latest the latest .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 . . . update - KB4569745 - from Microsoft - check your Windows update to see if you have this update installed..

. . . . Magix Edit Pro . . . .

The program name is Movie Edit Pro - Magix is the company.

. . . . Video deluxe Plus    28.03.2017 . . . .

Video deluxe is European name for Movie Edit Pro.

The registration date suggests you originally had Movie Edit Pro 2017 and have upgraded to Movie Edit Pro 2020 - the current version - you will see no change in the name of the program in your account.

. . . . Obviously after 2 years Magix stops any technical support. . . . .

Not at all - as you are on the current version, you must have renewed the Update Service, you can see when this expires by clicking the Show more details link that is under the product registration

As you can see above the registration date is in 2016, however the more details shows I am using Movie Edit Pro 2020 and it is registered on 2 computers.

Unfortuntely I don't have a "show more detail" option:

It is the latest version.

I am stuck with this stupid problem and cannot even inform the support. Perfect. =(

Good news!

Let us know how you get on and if Magix can replicate the problem.

Just out of interest it may help if we had your whole system information.GPU, motherboard etc. Sometimes it could be a driver issue or an incompatible card somewhere. It is good to have that info in your Signature ad to keep it updated with changes as it helps us to help you faster with enquiries.

Version 10.0.18363 build 18363 is same as Windows 10 release 1909, so it is not old.

However, I find it strange that another line states

Hardware Abstraction Layer    Version = "10.0.18362.752"

which indicates Windows 10 release 1903, but only patch as to 24/3-2020.

Hi.

So, does this look as if it is a Microsoft update problem or not? Have some updates been missed or blocked?

A missing hardware abstraction layer (HAL) could be the problem as it could effect a keyboard.

I only have problems with Magix Video Edit Pro, all other programs I use work fine.

I am working with 2 monitors. Second monitor is running with graphic card: Intel HD Graphics 4600.

Maybe that is part of the problem?

PS: In any case, this bug is very annoying and takes a lot of my time ... pretty bad.

ka1n0 wrote on 8/15/2020, 1:08 PM

I think I found the issue! Maybe a Windows 10 bug?

I disabled the "Snap windows" under System > Settings > Multitasking and now the ALT + TAB works again. The software gets focused.

UPDATE: No, it only worked for 1 minute, then the faulty behavior came back...

Not my day ...

I hope the developer can find out about it and fix it asap. I am sure I am not the only one with this problem. But the first one reporting!

CubeAce wrote on 8/15/2020, 1:47 PM

@shgrude@shgrude @johnebaker @Markus73

This is the problem. Every user possibly has their setup different. Add to that different components and drivers and it gets complex and difficult.

One thing I keep on top of is drivers. I don't rely too much on automatic updates but have a link to each of my components website pages to check every now and then. Sometimes it's down to a missing dll file. The thing is, until it can be verified by anyone else it could be system or setup specific and impossible to replicate.

Have you tried running chkdsk to see if Windows can find any faults?

Disk is fine. 0 bad sectors.

I can play-pause the video in movie edit (hitting space bar after ALT TAB), but it does not come to the front visually (!!!)

I think it's not a driver problem.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Hi Alwyn.

This is beginning to sound like system stain to me. MEP is using an increasingly huge chunk of system resources as the program gets updated. It may just be taking time to respond and reload. Possibly not enough system ram. The program instantly comes to the front whenever I press the task bar icon. Even while doing other things like web browsing. When you have MEP open, what is Task Manager reporting as system ram usage. Is it just shy of full ram usage?

Ray.

@AAProds

Hi Alwyn. I'm more interested in a before and after shot of starting MEP up and using the Performance tab of Task Manager to watch the values change during use.

From there it is easier to see the rise in the amount of ram usage as the program loads and plays, and any real time shifts as the programs 'focus' is shifted around. Remember you have a lot of background tasks running at the same time. Opening other programs also shifts system priorities around within Windows.

It's possible that some data MEP needs to continue to run gets shifted to disk and needs to then be retrieved, causing the delay or even the possible second press to activate. As with most things PC related I'm not a programmer or pretend to know what is going on under the hood. I just pick upon patterns of behaviour I see reported here and see similarities in reported problems vs system specs.

I also very much find Magix reported minimum requirements somewhat suspect in regards to usage, as I often find minimum specs not to read as 'working without flaws'. It seems very odd to me that those with systems excessive of minimum requirements file next to no reported problems with the way MEP behaves while those close to base requirements have more problems the closer to the minimum requirements their systems get.

Ray.

@Angel-Torres

Hi

What is the version number of Movie Edit Pro as found under Help, About, and your Windows version/build number?

See this topic for how to get the Windows version number.

@AAProds - I had a similar issue with MEP 2020 on Windows 2004 and the 3 click issue, however it disappeared after a while.
