Problem:  Application was working fine until it wouldn’t open one day.  Only see 2-5 seconds of a spinning blue circle then nothing. App does not show in processes.

Intel core 2 Quad Q8300 2.5GHZ, 8 GB Ram 1066 MHz, NVIDIA GeForce

GTX1650 4 GB, NVIDEA HD Audio chipset,  SSD M4 238GB install drive, WDC 596GB USB,  WDC 932 GB

WINDOWS 10 Pro ver. 22H2,  GeForce driver 576.52 5/19/25

Magix Movie Studio 2024 Platinum, dm_ke8rpa.exe, video deluxe plus

Product ver. 23.0.1.236

Actions taken: reinstalled app, updated video driver, ran event viewer-listed update notifier as problem, turned off Windows Defender & then no update event,  ran chkdsk-no errors, tried using Win 8 compatibility mode.

@John-Crooks

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

First, I have to say your computer is somewhat "under-powered" for the demands made by Movie Studio for editing and exporting (so you might wish to consider an upgrade to it), HOWEVER ...

Second, since you say this problem has only just started happening we need to look rather deeper into what may be the cause. So ..

  • Have there been any recent updates to Win 10 installed? Unfortunately, it is not unknown for these to cause serious problems!
  • Can you open the Command Prompt (as Administrator) and and enter run "sfc /scannow" (without the quote marks)? Does this show any errors or problems?
  • Before reinstalling the app, did you ensure that everything connected to the original installation was removed/uninstalled? Unfortunately, it is a common problem we see that "something left behind" from the previous installation also affects the new one! My personal preference is to use Revo Uninstaller to ensure everything is removed before attempting the reinstall. The simple fact is that the default Windows Installer Log (which is used during the uninstall process) records only what is added to or changed on your computer during the initial install. It does not know anything about files, folders, registry entries etc., which may be created on first and subsequent runs of the app.
  • Can you also view and follow this tutorial about using the Windows Reliability Monitor to help diagnose the reasons for apps crashing or simply no opening, and post any results to a future reply.?

You mention that Update Notifier is reported as the problem. You can uninstall this part of the app and/or prevent it auto-starting in Task Manager>Startup Apps.

Please let us know what, if anything of the above suggestions helped, or not!

Jeff- thanks for the advice.

Windows update history

Scan results Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.
For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline
repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.

Used Revo Uninstaller. Reinstalled.

Removed Magic updater from start menu

Reliability Monitor

Still not opening.Thoughts?

Thanks

@John-Crooks

Thanks for the additional information.

Was that Reliability Monitor screenshot made after you had reinstalled the app, because I see Update Notifier is shown as still being a problem? If so, have you restarted your computer since the reinstall (Power>Restart, not Power>Shutdown) since Restart effectively "resets" everything to its "defaults" and so, assuming you have Disabled the Startup of Update Notifier (via Task Manager) it should no longer be "active".

Hallo John,

Here is an addition to @emmrecs Jeff's answer. If you have installed Magix Update Notifier (connect), remove it and if you use it, install the latest "MAGIX Update Notifier" (Connect). See: Updating / Configuring "MAGIX Update Notifier" (Connect)

Kind regards,

Rob

I must have run the RM before I reinstalled because when I reran it the Notifier errors were gone.

I uninstalled the Magix update notifier using Revo then ran RM again. No errors showed and Magix Movie Studio would not open.

Hello John,

What you can still try is the following:

  • go to: C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\Videodeluxe30_plus
  • delete the videodeluxe.ini file
  • MMS 2024 will be reset to the default value and any computer configuration errors will be fixed
  • when starting MMS 2024 this INI file will be automatically created again.

Good luck,
Rob

PS. as far as I could find out your Intel core 2 Quad Q8300 2.5GHZ dates from 2008 (17 years old).

Thanks to all for your help. My last attempt was unsuccessful so I’ve decided to replace my antique PC. I have a habit of holding on to things till the bitter end.  "tighter than bark on a tree" euphemism is appropriate 😀 Early this year I also traded in my 17 year old car for a new one!
