wrong video at start

harald-bach-gansmo wrote on 8/26/2022, 4:45 AM

Hi,

Playback in VLC is fine for my .avi file. But when I drag and drop same video into a new empty Movie Studio 2022 Platinum project and play back....it adds some parts from the middle of the file. This is also added when I export. Strange!

Restart Moviestudio or restart PC does not help.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

What is the source of the AVI file -eg OBS screen recording, DV camera etc?

Download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips and post the results, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.

Are the graphics card drivers up to date?

A screen shot of the Program settings, Device options tab  would help.

I would suggest you put your computer specification, Windows version and program version number, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full, and also what monitor/screen resolution(s) your are working with if this is a laptop.

@harald-bach-gansmo

Hi

Thanks for the information.

. . . . Intel64 Family 6 Model 158 Stepping 9 GenuineIntel ~4201 Mhz . . . .

Unfortunately this does not tell us the processor model - there are a large number of processors in this family of Intel CPU which span several years.

Open Windows Device Manager and expand the Processors section to get the name of the processor as shown below

Is there no audio on this AVI file? I see no data for it in the analysis you posted.

. . . . VLC has no problem with correct playback of the same .avi file. . . .

Unfortunately what happens in any player is not an indication of what will happen in any video editor.

I have adjusted the computer specification in your post above to remove all the unnecessary information for clarity.

Added:

One issue I can see with the video is:

Frame rate mode                          : Variable

This often causes issues with many video editors try converting the video using a converter such as Handbrake or AviDemux to Constant frame rate to determine if this is the cause of the issue.

Hi, thanks for quick reply:

CPU is Intel Core i7 - 7700K @ 4.20Ghz

Correct, no sound...video only.

@harald-bach-gansmo

Hi

Thanks for the CPU specification and confirmation there is no audio.

Looking at the MediaInfo data the video is h.264 in an AVI container file, this is not a common format and one of my video converters tells me 'this is a bad idea'.

I have tested this and can replicate the issue you are having with h.264 encoded video in an AVI container file.

If the video was exported from another program try exporting as h.264, constant framerate in a MP4 container file, or as a standard AVI file.

If re-exporting cannot be done, convert the file to a standard format eg h.264 encoded video in a mp4 container and Constant framerate file using a video converter. If you do not have one then Handbrake or Avidemux and and import this into Movie Studio.
