  @thisismichael If you right click on the preview window there's options, have you ticked one? It should be on Standard 2D. You can upload pics & video using the arrow button next to the smiley at the top of a new comment.

  @clement5 @johnebaker I've done a trial with "NTSC" movie settings ie 720x480 4;3, and the results are the same: if the image frame is exactly 720x480, the image is stretched vertically to fill the 4:3 window. And not by a "slight" amount either.

  I use Faststone Image Viewer. It's Freeware, simple, lightweight and has a batch converter. It works on XP all the way up to Win11 and version 8.0 was recently released.  I'll second this. Nifty program for basic image editing.
