  I am not sure about the trial version. it very well may be disabled because of licensing. Otherwise MP3 encoding and playback is supported in Sound Forge Audio Studio and Pro. There has been cases were it does not work. but a SF 'reset/clear cache'

  @ANDREA-GAROFALO It depends. This old program consisted of two different applications. Audio Studio became Samplitude Music Studio and MIDI Studio was bought by Apple and is now Logic Pro. Samplitude Music Studio can edit WAV and MP3 files fine.
