When I import mov files into Movie Edit Pro Premium there is no audio although this plays perfectly well in other programs. I notice that mov files are only listed as importable. Is this causing the problem.
@Former user Not a good idea if the 3rd party program is going to re-encode, and especially if @jolyonhc can import the video OK. Any re-encode reduced quality.
@jolyonhc could you install Mediainfo then open one of your MOVs in it. When opened, choose View>Text, then copy and paste all that text into a post here. The issue appears to be that MEP can't read the audio codec.
Also, what version of MEP do you have? Help>About
What is the source of the MOVs eg iphone? It would help if you could upload a short one to a file-sharing site so we can take a look at it.
MEP Premium 2022. The mov file like several I have of family was taken on a Kodak 360 camera. I don't seem to have access to a sharing site, not something I do apart from sending by email.

As far as I'm aware you can't attach a video file using that method. To get an unaltered video clip it would have to be from either a file sharing site (Dropbox or similar) or using wetransfer with an open link posted here to download.
I agree though that the ADPCM ulaw codec was really first made for a digital phone system as an audio carrier and not meant for video although at that time there may not have been a lot of alternatives. If I can find my old Kodak Z710 camera and it still has a working memory card I may be able to produce a file to test if it has the same encoding format. Will have a look around.
Just checked the Kodak Z710 and although the picture size is the same the recordings are not the same file formats. Although it still records in the mov format it is recording as motion JPEG at 30fps and has a 41.1kHz audio output. The camera must be a newer model than the Kodak model @jolyonhc has.
The picture I opened in Mediainfo was taken in 2007 and my camera was fairly old then, so I suspect we are looking at an 'antique' system. I also treat most social media with a fair amount of distrust. However, I do use Messenger to talk to my granddaughter. Would a post to there work.
Unfortunately no as any posting to a social media site will mean the video will have been re-encoded for upload.
I have had one thought though. We (other users including myself keep repeating that MEP and VPX do not like odd audio sample and bit rates and yet when I look at the the windows export options I see a lot sample rates and bit depths to export to.
So what gives? Could it be the rendering option chosen? If so it may be worth trying the alternative in the Program settings.
I have a copy of the video. The audio opens OK on my MEP 2021 system. I have the most immuno-compromised system on the planet though. Looking at a workaround for @jolyonhc now.
My program is MEP Premium 2022 Version 21.0.1.92 (UDP3). It also apparently has a UG code 8463KAI. I don't know if this helps but it is listed in the about dialogue. This is a registered copy bought from MAGIX.
As a test I imported the original mov file into the Nero video editor (latest version) and it worked perfectly. My problem with Nero is that unlike MEP it doesn't show individual frame pics in the time line so very precise editing is a bit of a gamble. This is OK for some of the work I do but I prefer to see the actual frames in the time line so I know where I am. Earlier versions of MEP like even 2021 obviously took the audio import OK.
