Making Blu-rays with MEP - any tutorials?

Hi

The tutorial is still there, however there appears to be an issue with the Magix media server(s) that handle all forms of media for the forum.

As soon as Magix fix the problem it will be there.

I think it is custom avatars that are not showing as well as other uploaded image file types.

I've used John's excellent tutorial and managed to get to the phase where I should burn the Blu-ray disc. By pressing the Burn-icon I get a window that allows me to select 1) Burner, 2) Disc format and 3) Burn process / start video encoding. When I press the Burn-icon in that window, I get a small window that says "For copyright reasons, activation is required for medium Blu-ray. Would you like to activate now for free?" I press "Activate online", and then I get another small window that says "The activation of Blu-ray failed. If you are using the program as a guest, please repeat the activation procedure with administrator rights." I launched MEP as an admin, but still get same "failed"-message. Any ideas what to do?

Try temporarily turning off your Antivirus Folder protection/Ransomware protection feature and activate again.

I'm not very familiar with my antivirus program (F-Secure), so I'm not sure how to those things. So tried to turn off everything (like this). That probably includes folder & ransomware protection. But it didn't help - I still got the same "failed" message.

Are you testing the trial version? If so then this may be one of the limitations of the trial version.

I have a full version. I tried the deactivate/reactivate-trick, but it didn't help - I still can't activate Blu-ray. But the reactivation of MEP was easy - I did it as non-admin and with antivirus on. Can we deduce, that if I can activate MEP like that, then the problem is NOT in my windows account (admin/non-admin) nor in my antivirus? Or is there are different kind of activation procedure in MEP and the Blu-ray feature?

I'm not going reinstall MEP yet (too much trouble). I asked help from the Magix support, and I'll see first what they can offer.

This is not the first time that I have activation problems with MEP. It's pretty annoying. Why on earth do I have to activate features of the program - why can't they be activated on the installation? And what might be the "copyright reasons" that are solved by making the customer do the activation him-/herself?😠

edit. Well, I created another project with a movie that has aac-audio. And still got the failed-message. So probably it has nothing to do with Dolby.

AC-3 is Dolby's proprietary audio codec for stereo and Surround Sound - due to a licensing issue, the codec is no longer available for encoding to AC-3 Surround Sound audio.

It may have, if the burn dialog format options are set to Surround Sound

In the burn dialog if the settings are as at 1, click the Encoder settings button,
If you see AC-3 Surround sound at 2, then click button the Advanced button (3)
Change the Channels option (4) to Stereo

OR

The codec requesting activation is the MPEG-2 encoder option at 1 in the image above. - if so try the H.264 option with the Channels set to Stereo - this should be the default as at 2 in the image above.

It's a registry key thing, says support.

That key is the problem, and now I should delete it with RegistrarHome. I've done it before, when I had similar problems with mpeg-2 and mpeg-4 activation. Before I do it: if something goes wrong, would a Windows restore point help?

Thanks for the feedback. Rather then use a System restore point, I would export the registry key before deleting it, that way if you have to put it back a double click on the registry fragment will restore it without affecting other changes in the registry that may occur between deleting the key and restoring it.

I finally had the time to delete the problem key. I did it successfully and then tried to activate Blu-Ray (as an admin and with F-Secure off). Nope. Still got the same "failed" message.

I also checked the audio issues and h.264-codec John mentioned - they are all OK.

I just contacted Support again, but it could take some days before they answer. I assume that they advise me to reinstall the program. Problem is that my update service stops working after March 15. Am I correct that if I reinstall the program before that date, I can still get the same version I have now (21.0.2.130)? But after that date I can only get version I bought a year ago?

By the way, how is reinstallation done? Where do I get the installation file?

Magix seems to have listened to us complaining about missing out on patches after a re-install; the latest downloads seem to contain the patches.

MEP 2022 Version 130 ie fully-patched is available in your My Products under "Movie Edit Pro Premium" (no version number).

I assume you'll still have access to the program after your 12 months runs out but can't be sure.

Edit: I did try to get the main EXE file but now can't work it out (it worked for the original version), so I've removed my previous suggestion.
