I have done many videos before on other programs. No problems. With Magix, endless problems resulting in endless hours of work redos. Currently, the thumbnail photos appear only in the black and white square with no picture. Sometimes, the pictures appear, but then they are gone again. I cannot begin to say how much time I have wasted on Magix and am considering scrapping the hour-long video, and buying a different program.

@Jan-Johnson

Hi Jan.

In your last post to the forum you were asked by John Baker for your computer specs.

That may be very useful for a more accurate diagnosis of possible problems.

Without those specs we can only guess at the cause of your problems, but it is a huge program and very resource hungry compared with other video editing programs, hence the minimum specifications listed on the specs page of the program on the Magix website. They are the bare minimum specs to even get the program to run as it really should at levels up to HD resolution. Ideally for trouble free use the computer should exceed minimum specs in as many areas as possible.

Comparing it to other programs at a software and hardware level is like comparing apples to oranges.

Current supported photo file formats should be

BMP GIF HEIF JPEG PNG TGA TIF.

I think that is a piece, though the program was running smoothly, with pictures and music. I think the problem for me is the project comes up with 4 tabs. It’s slow, I think, because it’s working x 4. What I need help with is understanding if 4 tabs is normal and if not, how do delete a tab without deleting my project.
I also think the program is not user friendly. I’ve done so many of these with ease. And on this computer. So please, I would appreciate solutions to 4 tabs.
Thanks,

jan.

Hi,

What do you mean by 4 tabs? 4 Movies?

Currently, the thumbnail photos appear only in the black and white square with no picture.

What black and white square?

We can't see your screen so we are trying to interpret what you are saying, with difficulty.

Please supply screen shots.

i have recovered the numb nails. I have had my computer text service my computer to make sure it is functioning smoothly.
the tabs I refer to are above the timeline/storyline. They seem to reflect backups. I plan on removing the associated files ti get to one tab. If I lose a week’s work I have nothing to lose as the program has wasted days of my time. And again, I’m not new to this type of project. I have done many, just new to Magix.

Hi,

The tabs above the timeline are Movies, not backups. You should watch my tutorials on Getting Started part 3 and Basic Editing Parts 1 and 2.

I’m happy to take a screen shot from the control panel if there is a way to send it.
the program seems to be constantly saving - like after every click. Then I see 6 or 7 backups under projects which I delete because accumulating those files I believe is part of the problem.
In the beginning, the program worked acceptably, so I’m baffled why it’s a disaster now.

BTW, why don’t you have a tech phone line? This way of troubleshooting could take weeks and I only have time while I wait for the program to load and reload and save and stall. Just scrolled and it’s saving again. Crazy.

@Jan-Johnson This is a user based forum, you're talking to people who are helping you from their own good nature, the ones with an M on their icon are Moderators who help oversee this forum, they do that voluntarily, they're not paid Magix staff,

If you right click on the Taskbar at the bottom of your screen - Taskmanager, when that opens choose Performance at the top & click on CPU, drag the corner of that Taskmanager window to make it bigger so it shows the GPU at the bottom of that list,

In the start menu there's an app called Snipping Tool in Windows Accessories, when it opens choose Window snip from the Mode button, then click on the screen & it will capture the window you click on, save it somewhere

Like this, you can upload a picture using the arrow button at the top of a new comment next to the smiley 😁

@Jan-Johnson

Please watch the tutorials.

The program seems to be constantly saving - like after every click. Then I see 6 or 7 backups under projects which I delete because accumulating those files I believe is part of the problem.

Under Program settings, System tab, there is a setting for backups - "Save automatically." The default is 10 minutes. You can change this, but if you turn it off and have a crash and your project no longer works, please do not come back to the forum to ask how to recover your project. The program makes 10 backup files 0 to 9 and restarts, so the most you'll have is 10. Do not delete these - they have nothing to do with your problems.

Please watch the tutorials. And read the manual, as I recommend in the tutorial on Getting Started.

If you don't know how to take a screen shot and then upload it (there is an upload button on the menu when you are replying, there is even a hint on it when you pass the mouse over it), please search how to do this on the internet. There are probably hundreds of tutorials showing the same thing. Watch one.

Way back in the day (70's-90's), you could call and get a hold of a person in most companies. Now? You press this number, FAQ that and hope to get an answer. It's the cost of doing business. The cost of consumer editing software is low. The profit margins are small because the competition is high. To hire qualified tech support is expensive, unless you want a call center in a foreign country reading a script. You would have people calling for all sorts of issues, which might not even be related to the software directly, but more because of their OS, virus, etc... That all takes time.

So now, a lot of software companies rely on the good nature of user forums to help. It saves them a lot of money, keeps the costs of the software down (in the consumer/prosumer world) and usually, you'll get an answer faster than writing emails and waiting in today's world.

To add to what @Reyfox said, even if there was telephone support, they still couldn't see your screen and you would not be able to provide screen shots. Also, they would ask for the same information that has been asked here, which you have not provided. Please read through the replies and comply - fully. When questions are asked, answer them all.

Have you looked at the tutorials?

Have you looked at what is under Program Settings for backups?
