I notice in your first image it says the image is HIEC.

That is slightly different from HEIF which I know is supported at least in the latest versions of the program but If the encoding is different it is probably an unsupported image format.

Is the image from a newer iPhone?

Try right clicking the file on the timeline and see what information comes up.

@Iris-Willis My phone settings say HEIF but the files it produces are HEIC. These work in MMS2025 but I'm on Windows 10 with a Nvidia GPU.

You might want to try the HEIF Microsoft extension https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9pmmsr1cgpwg?hl=en-US&gl=US

Your image crashed both my copy of MMS 2024 and VPX14.

It does not show a thumbnail on my system.

Does not open in any Windows app.

@CubeAce Hi, that image did open for me but I realised it was taken with the camera set at 200mp which creates a big file & if you open it with MediaInfo it shows .. uh? You prob understand that more than I do.

I swapped the file on Google Drive for a 50mp image, try that one instead 👍

Same result in both programs. Windows gave this warning this time around though.

But VPX is supposed to be able to handle HEVC without that additional codec from Windows. It can certainly export an HEVC file.

Hi CubeAce. Yes it is an HEIC file from a new iPhone, however my husband's phone also had HEIC files and I never had any issues with that previously. EDIT: in fact this one particular photo was taken on my husband's phone.....never had issues before with HEIC files.

Movie Edit Pro Plus 2022, has a history of issues with some HEIC/HEIF image files either not importing correctly or crashing the program..

I would suggest you convert the files to jpg format, there are several apps in the Microsoft Store that can do this.

Hi.

If there have been any operating system updates to your husbands phone it is conceivable the phone has been updated to use the latest codec.

Apple continuously does this. It does not want it's users to use other operating system based products.

My computer opens ALL the files fine. My husband's iPhone (iPhone 12 mini) is a bit older than mine and his HEIC files show up fine in MAGIX. My HEIC files (from my new iPhone 16 Pro) do not appear or are black and white in the MAGIX program.

I think it's a glitch with MAGIX. I guess I'll convert my files to jpg. How fun! :-(

@CubeAce Yep that what's I read, when those files are opened with MediaInfo it's littered with 'HEVC' 🤷‍♂️

@Iris-Willis Hi, there might be an option on your phone to turn the HEIF/HEIC off, it'll produce .jpegs then, (I'm guessing as I have a Samsung).

I've used GIMP for many yrs, which is a free photo editor. Simply drag in the HEIC, it'll ask if you want to convert it, say yes Convert & let it do it's thing, then 'Export As' jpg or png (I prefer png), A window will pop-up & the name at the top will be the same as your picture with .heic at the end, rename the file but with .png at the end instead. Export to the location you choose from the menu on the left. . https://www.gimp.org/

PS, others may have a better option, maybe just a simple converter .
