@Iris-Willis Hi, no I don't think there's a difference, I have 2025 Platinum.. Suite & Ultimate are the same base program (Platinum) but have 'extras' included.

I asked in MS Edge how to convert HEIC files to jpg. The first answer was here.

To manually convert HEIC photos to JPG, use the Files app on your iPhone or iPad. Create a new folder, copy and paste the photos from the Photos app into the folder, and they will be instantly converted to JPG format.

While the HEIC format is superior to JPEG in terms of picture quality and file size, it only works seamlessly within the Apple ecosystem.

No need to do anything complicated.

And I also asked CoPilot. @CubeAce take note as you don't seem to like CoPilot.

You have a few options to convert HEIC files to JPG on Windows:

Using Windows Photos App – Open the HEIC file in the Photos app, then click "Save As" and choose JPG as the format.

Online Converters – Websites likeHEICtoJPG allow you to upload and convert HEIC files to JPG for free.

Third-Party Software – Apps like CopyTrans HEIC for Windows add native HEIC support and allow easy conversion.

iOS Settings – If transferring from an iPhone, you can set your device to automatically convert HEIC to JPG when transferring via USB.

You should have Photos as it comes with Windows. It's my default photo viewer.

Your file opens fine for me in both Magix Movie Studio 2025 and Magix Video Pro X16.

Hi Al.

I for one benefited from this delve into file formats and although downloading the HEIF Image Extention on its own did not remedy the problem of even being able to see a thumbnail of the files on my pc. The link @Can-Dive gave for an alternative way to get the appropriate HEVC Video Extension without having to create a Microsoft account for their app store was a personal win for me, allowing me to see the files as thumbnails and although didn't help with my versions of MMS or VPX but at least have some working within Vegas 21 allows me if need be to also use such files (although not likely personally). It also allows me to use HEVC in general again and view the resulting files as thumbnails as well as just be able to play them back in Film & TV.

It has also shown there was an additional benefit to upgrading to MSS 2025 for those needing to work with such files. Also thanks to Iris for the feedback from Magix which was as I suspected from the start. Apple up to their usual format war.

So, I had sent a ticket to MAGIX and they responded by saying (pretty much what others have already said): that the problem is the new apple files. There is nothing they (Magix) can do. They suggested I try one of their other programs on a 30 day free trial and see if those work. My other option was to convert the files to jpg.

The manufacturer of a video-editing program is unable to either test or know if their latest offering can open these files (which it obviously can). Sad.

I TOTALLY agree that MAGIX should have their own tech team test and and confirm. Kind of lame on their part.

Apple decided to make this in this version of the codec to keep it's use within it's own ecosystem purely for its own gain. They don't want people using other makes of hardware or software not ported to use the Apple OS and you blame Magix for an older version of it's program that was in use before the introduction of that codec for not being compatible.

Ray, MMS2025 does support the codec. The issue I have is that Support either didn't know that or didn't try it with the current version. If they had known, they would have said (I hope) to Iris "MMS2025 supports Apple HEIC image files so an upgrade option to the latest version would be suitable for you".

Yes Ray, I do - Irfanview. It's free and simple; admittedly not too many whistles and bells but is perfectly adequate for almost all of my needs, especially when the extra FREE plugin pack is added.

It will also batch convert as many images as you want to almost any type you want.

All three are free, come in a portable version so you don't need to install them on your computer and essentially do the same thing although one may do something that you specifically need or do it in a way you like. I suggest you try all three and pick the one you prefer. That's what I did. 🤓

I have looked and concede that there are basic editors out there (I downloaded and tried out irfanview) and looked at the specs for FastStone and xnview) capable of at least some basic editing and batch conversion to another file type. I missed the reply from Can-Dive or would not have commented on that aspect of the topic.

Magix MMS and prior MEP versions sometimes did, and in some instances still do support file formats not mentioned in either the website specs or in the manuals. Photoshop PSD files for instance.

I don't know how many of the developers at Magix if any were there at the start but there must be hundreds of thousands of lines of code if not more and lots of bolt on SDK packs to the point that probably no-one knows the complete capabilities or defects the program can handle or reject until it is tried or reported on.

In this instance I just don't think it fair to expect Magix to know everything about what it supports or doesn't. They are not alone in this. Similar gripes come up on other NLE program sites.

Just look at the other mess with variable frame rate videos. Some work and some don't. With some it seems better hardware helps and other times not.

Also, the Import/Export formats are all listed on the Magix site and in the manuals. No need for someone to know the code for this. A Magix employee replying to customer queries should at least know what the supported formats are.

Even those companies that still have a phone line, talk to a real person, help line often don't seem capable of helping.

Just this week my wife had her car blocked in by a well known companies van. She could not get through on her mobile phone so phoned me at home. I got through on the land line but although they found the van on their records and found where it was, could not get in contact with the driver. 🤷‍♂️

We have a set of pink porcelain flying pigs on our kitchen wall as a constant reminder of what ifs.
