Video files not loading

Vincent-OBrien wrote on 10/3/2025, 6:18 AM

I am using Magix Studio 23. I can open the software and add some photos. When I start adding video files, I can load the first 4 files. After that, I try to load 12 additional files. The loading gets to about 80% and then crashes, closing the program and restarting it. I have experienced this 4 time in succession. I am using a Dell Desktop with Intel Core I5. I have 8G of processer and 16 G of storagel. I have not experience this particular error before. Can you help please?

@Vincent-OBrien

Hi

Can you clarify the following please:

. . . Magix Studio 23 . . . .

Do you mean Movie Studio v23.x.x.x ie Movie Studio 2024, or Movie Studio 2023 ie v22.x.x.x ?

. . . . . I am using a Dell Desktop with Intel Core I5 . . .

We need more information, Windows version and program version, see this topic for what is required, and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full.

I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

As the issues occur when adding video to the timeline.

Download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips, or more if they are from different sources, and post the results, see this tutorial on how to set up MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.

Was there any error dialog that popped up when the crash occurred, if so what was the message?

Are the graphics card/integrated GPU drivers up to date?

A screen shot of the Program settings, Device options tab  would help.

Hello John and thank you for your prompt response

Alas, I am just a computer user and not familiar with the detail that you requested. I have done some searching and came up with the following:

Windows Version - last update 13 Sept 25 - 2 items : Windows 2025-09 - net framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 24H2 for x64-based system (KB5064441) +

Windows 2025-09 - Windows 11, version 24H2 for a 64-based system (KB5065426) (26100.6504). I also have a copy of the computer details listing which I attach (if I can). This lists a lot of details for the various aspect of the computer.

The magix version that I have got is Magix Movie Studio 2023 Premium 22.0.3.172

My Computer is a Dell Inspiron 3881 - H2N00V. There are a lot of details on the attached file.

Also, I had a repeat Error Code (don't know if it the same as the original) and I attach a copy of this'

The long computer details file appears not be able to attach; probably not a suitable format.

I will send this now but will deliver some details of the computer /cpu shortly,

Kind regards,

@Vincent-OBrien

Hi

Thanks for the info, the error message:

. . . . Error in module mx dec mf audio x64.dll . . . .

Is a known issue with some video files which have the audio encoded in a 'non standard' or not supported for the video and file formats.

The MediaInfo data on one of the additional 12 files, assuming they are from the same source/camera will tell us the video and audio encoding formats used.

@Vincent-OBrien and what is the make/model of the camera you are using along with the settings you used for recording?

Vincent-OBrien wrote on 10/6/2025, 11:32 AM

Hi Reyfox,

My camera details are - Panasonic "Lumix" DMC-FZ2000. As a rule, I use it on automatic "iA+" but am able to choose certain bits of the settings. So, I used a frame of 16:9; Recording Format of AVCHD ; REC Quality with as the following features: (1920 x 1080, 50.000i, image sensor output 25.00p, 24Mbps,. Dolby Digital). Photo Style = Standard.

I don't know if this helps but on this occasion, I had the Focus Mode Lever set to AFS; Continuous AF set to "ON"; Luminance Level to 16-255 ; Stabilizer to Operation Mode with a sign of a hand with two 'brackets' either side; Time Code Display to "OFF"; The HDMI Rec Output was set to Info Display ON; Sound Output to "Realtime" ; Mic Level Disp set to OFF; Wind Noise Canceller set to "Standard" ; Color Bars set to "SMPTE" ;

I have used this camera many times for video; sometimes with AVCHD and (accidentally) to MP4. The only difference that I encountered was the the AVCHD put the video files into a separate folder on the camera; whereas the MP4 put the photos and the video clips all in the one folder.

Hope that this helps.

Vincent OBrien

Hi

. . . . . Recording Format of AVCHD (1920 x 1080, 50.000i, image sensor output 25.00p, 24Mbps,. Dolby Digital) . . . .

This is standard Panasonic/Sony AVCHD format which should import without issues - the MediaInfo data will tell us information that is missing from the camera specs.

Sorry Jrff,

I think that I am missing something. In the Tutorial - in Part 2 - the selected file is dragged and dropped back on the screen. It appears that this is not the orignal screen as it does not have any text on it as was the case with the original screen. When I drag my file back, I am getting the original screen with all the text on it. This results in a summary of the file protrayed on the screen. Is this correct? in which case, how can I get the analysis shown in the Tutorial.

Many thanks,

Does MediaInfo now look something like this example.

If so, right click in the text are and click Select all .

The text will have a blue background, right click again and Select Copy

Start a comment and paste the text from the analysis into your comment.

@Vincent-OBrien

Yes, that one file's data is enough, thank you!

I am struck by its size, 9.85GB for a file whose playing time is just over 8 seconds, but am puzzled by an overall bit rate 10.2 Gb/s but a Maximum overall bit rate 24 Mb/s. Something doesn't sound right about those figures, I think!

Can you also post the MediaInfo data of one of those 4 files you ahve been able to successfully add to your project? I'd like to see a comparison between it and the one you've already shown.

My initial impression is that the file you've given the data for, if it is representative of your video files, has a bit rate that is simply too high for your computer to handle; essentially it is becoming overloaded by the needed data throughput speed.

Hi

Thanks for the MediaInfo data, the one analysis is enough, they are identical to those from my Sony camera and should import with no issues.

The second error message mfc140u.dll error would suggest that some Windows system files may be corrupt.

See this tutorial for how to check and fix some Windows issues.

If that does not fix the import issue and you are comfortable with uninstalling and installing Windows system files:

  1. Download the latest Visual C++ install files from here, you need both versions indicated in the image below.

  2. Uninstall the existing installations indicated in the image below, you may have several other versions on your computer, do not uninstall them.

  3. Restart the computer, and then install the 2 files downloaded in step 1.

  4. Restart the computer again and test importing a video file.

If you are not comfortable doing the above I would advise you to have the PC checked for the above items by your local computer 'Tech Guy'.

Hi Jeff

. . . . does that include the total file size, which on the MI analysis given, suggest more than 1GB per second of footage? . . . .

According to the Panasonic camera specs, the max bitrate of 200Mb/s for AVCHD 1920 * 1080 fps, and to hit that rate the video is going to have a lot of detail and fast movement.

The Maximum Overall bit rate  of 24.0 Mb/s is well within the capabilities of VDL.

MI appears to have a couple of calculation/units bugs.

This is one of my Sony files:
