Video Saver 8.0.0.28, issues with importing videos

Stefan-Trngren wrote on 8/5/2026, 8:41 AM

As of today I am having issues with importing videos from analogue sources.

I have not had these issues before and use this program daily. What I noticed today was that five minutes into a recording the recording would freeze while the tape was still playing on the VCR.

I tried again but with different results, either that would happen again (and now the freezing starts immediately and not 5 minutes in), or I would get a black screen or a black and green screen, see image

I uninstalled and reinstalled the program, that didn't help. And I have tried different tapes.

Any idea what's wrong?

I don't know if related, but I have had other issues with the program lately mentioned here. With that I didn't encounter any issues with the importing itself but when I would save it the files would go corrupted a little under half the time.

Hi

I have closed you original post on the import 'corruption issue' to avoid split responses on what is the same issue.

We need more information to help diagnose the issue(s) you are having:

The specification of your computer system including Windows version and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full, and also what monitor/screen resolution(s) you are working with if this is a laptop.

I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

Are the graphics card/integrated GPU drivers up to date?

A screen shot of the Program settings, would help.

What device are you recording from and do you have the Video standard, PAL or NTSC, set to match that of the device you are recording from?

What changes occurred between working and the issues you are now having?

In the Windows settings, Privacy & Security, App permissions section (scroll down) Microphone and Camera options, check both for the options Let desktop apps access your microphone/camera (scroll down) is set to on.

I believe this is what you are asking for (program settings)

I'm recording from a VCR (PAL). Says PAL above so should be fine, and there have not been any issues before.

For the issues with corrupted files I don't recall any changes. For this most recent issue, the only change is that I upgraded from mobile broadband to fibre.

Both of those are set to on.

Your project folder is pointing to OneDrive. As per this post try setting it to a local drive. 👍

Hi Al

The link you have given points to a regional jet video.

@Stefan-Trngren

Hi

As Al has commented OneDrive is installed and syncing your Documents folder to OneDrive, this is known to cause issues.

  • As a minimum, you need to stop OneDrive syncing the Magix folder in your Documents folder - see this article on how to do this.

    OR

  • If you do not need to use OneDrive then see this article to disable it completely.

Note:- ensure you have a backup copy of everything that has been uploaded to OneDrive before doing either of the above.

Thanks for this advice, and sorry AA for giving incorrect answers previously.

I want to start with temporary pausing as I don't know what disabling OneDrive completely would cause.

However, when I follow the advice under Stop syncing temporarily I am either doing it wrong or the options are not showing up.

This is what I see when I right click on OneDrive, nothing that says pause syncing, and the one example that mentions pause syncing is already toggled.

What should I click on here?

Regards, Stefan

Hi

The first link I gave you the article you are taken to pause syncing, includes a link to the procedure to stop syncing specific folders.

Click the down arrow next to Documents to see the sub-folders, the Magix folder should be there.

Do the Documents subfolders check boxes become active, ie not greyed out, when you uncheck the Make all files visible option?

If you scroll down to the Magix folders, are they also still greyed out?

Also, exactly which edition of Win 11 do you have, Home or Pro? I wonder whether, if you have Home, there is a deliberate restriction on access to the OneDrive folder and settings?

Hi

In addition to @emmrecs comment, from one of your images above it looks like you may be subscribing to OneDrive to get extra storage space, or have a business/education provided account.

If so, create a new folder outside the OneDrive folder, and set Video Saver to use the new folder.

@Stefan-Trngren

Stefan, yes, that's it. You can name it anything you like. If you want to be super-organised, in a main folder such as "Magix Videos", you could create subfolders for each porject.

To set Video Saver to the folder you're using for a project: File>settings>Project. Change the location to your created folder:

If you have two physical drives in your computer, I'd suggest you put your video folder on the non-Windows drive to speed things up.

I have tried to change the settings to first my c drive and then my e drive, but I am still experiencing all these issues (rolling/jumping footage, freezing screens, black screen, corrupted files when saving) on and off.

AAProds wrote on 8/11/2026, 7:43 PM

@Stefan-Trngren

The issue could be the digitiser not being able to handle the poor signal from the VCR (caused by bad tapes).

First test: do another recording of the tape and see if the problems are replicated at the same point on the tape.

Second test: try a different tape.

If you still have issues, have a look at my website here and see if any of those look like what you're getting. If so, you might need a stabiliser of some kind. This is a common problem with consumer-level digitisation of tapes, so you're not alone.
