VPX11 released today - Comments

browj2 wrote on 6/3/2019, 6:42 AM

VPX11 was released today with a new video engine developed in-house by Magix and Vegas Stabilization. New Blue Titler Pro 6 is bundled with it.

Has anyone dared try it yet? Comments?

Magix has not fixed a long list of bugs and complaints about VPX10. Have these been addressed?

Will Mercalli V4 still work? It doesn't look like it comes with the package and may have been replaced by Vegas Stabilization.

I am very worried about the new video engine, old bugs and new ones.

Here is the list of all of the new features:

  • Brand new video engine with significantly enhanced performance
  • NEW! VEGAS Video stabilization
  • NEW! Travel route animation – MAGIX Travel Maps
  • NEW! Cutting tool with dynamic preview
  • NEW! New fonts and customizable title templates
  • NEW! Title designer NewBlue Titler Pro 6
  • NEW! Compositing package NewBlue Elements 3 Ultimate

Coincidently, my update service expired 2 days ago.

WARNING! The new version will uninstall VPX10. Not good.

I am trying to install the trial version and it wants to uninstall VPX10. Definitely not a good idea!

I will proceed with the installation on my laptop, but not on my desktop. How can I even tell if this new engine will work on my desktop?

Not happy.

WARNING!!

My Update Service is still current so I chose to install the full replacement version. Bad mistake!!  As you wrote, it automatically removes VPX 10 (that seems to be the standard procedure now for all Magix "new" versions) but then, in my case, the new installation failed and automatically created an error log to send to Magix (good!) and I am now left completely without a functioning VPX!! 😡😡😡😡  There was an error message about an account already existing so failed to "create account".

As you might imagine, I am NOT a happy bunny!!

Jeff

Edit, to add: I very quickly received a standard email reply from Magix that said

Unfortunately the installation of your MAGIX software encountered a problem.

There can be many causes for an installation issue. Please check the website below for the most common causes and their solutions:

https://support2.magix.com/customer/en/tr/53600c6f

If none of the solutions help, then please create a Support Ticket directly at the Support website.

Unfortunately, the supplied link leads to a general page with "suggested" solutions, none of which seem particularly appropriate. Thankfully, I chose to keep a copy of the full error log the program generated so that is now going to be sent to Magix via a formal Support ticket.

I continue to 😡

Further Update: Now I know why I have an extensive back-up procedure in place! I was able to restore both Windows and the VPX program directory, so I am "back in business". (Not yet fully tested for full restoration of ALL areas, but at least it is once more usable.) Not "raging" quite so much!

@gmlotkow

First looks at the trial version:

  1. Surprise with the trial. It did an uninstall, new install and left almost everything intact, meaning all of the Templates are still there. It will be interesting to see what to do when it comes time to download and install the extra content. What will need to be downloaded and installed that is new or has been changed, and what has not been changed. All of my third party plugins showed up and those that I tested, worked. (Reminder to self: back up my personalized effects and collages)
  2. Playback on my Surface Pro is almost buttery smooth, even across Pixelan transitions. However, there is a stutter at about 1 second on every play back, even with no effects on the timeline, just my standard simple MP4 (using Full HD).
  3. On my Surface Pro, there is still a problem with the vertical scroll bar under Templates. It can't be grabbed with the mouse and still turns into a double arrow for changing the width of the window.
  4. HitFilm OFX keyframe problem remains and is actually worse: (Zoom Blur) putting keyframes on X and Y causes Y to go to infinity and in my first test, the screen goes black.
  5. Interface with Xara now works, finally!
  6. Right-click on Audio - selection for "Edit wave externally" did not show up the first time. I did a mixdown in a range and the command showed up as before, opened ME3, modified audio, exited back to VPX11, it worked. Then I went to the next clip, similar to the first, right-click, "Edit wave externally" was there and it did a mixdown and opened the external editor. So this seemed to have been resolved. I changed the external editor to Audio & Music Lab and it worked. But there have been glitches with AML recently, for some reason. There was no audio in my headphones and I had to change playback to speakers. This didn't happen with ME3 the first time, but it did every time thereafter and I had to change the playback. I think that VPX11 doesn't like to share the audio driver with some other projects. Next, I started a new project, same mp4 files, "Edit wave externally" did a mixdown but wouldn't open AML. Had to restart VPX. Oh no! In the new project, the first mp4 got mixed down, sent to AML and came back modified. The second clip mixed down but wouldn't open AML and the message came up that it's currently being used by an external program. Then right-click on the third clip (audio part) and "Edit wave externally" has disappeared. Changed to ME3 - no command. I should have recorded the screen. Restarted, changed external audio editor to AML and the command showed up on the mp4 audio. Strange. This feature still has a few problems, but we're getting closer.
  7. Playback in ME3 has the same stutter as VPX at about 1 second.
  8. Travel Route Animation: seems to have been replaced by Travel Maps, as that is what opens under the Wizard - Travel Route Animation. I would like to have both as there is in PhotoStory.
  9. The startup screen still has problems. The box at the top may have something once, nothing the next time, even after saving a new project.
  10. Multi-Cam: Tried with 4 mp4 files. Only 3 showed up when I went to multi-cam; I had to turn on the fourth camera manually. My selected Master Audio Track went to track 2 as it should; I did a trial with 2 different tracks as the master. There were no fades on any of the video clips. The multi-cam bug seems to have been resolved, but I'm not sure about the number of cameras showing up automatically.
  11. I had one crash testing proDad Heroglyph the first time. Restarted, applied it, no problem.

All for now.

Interesting question:

New Magix Video Pro X includes "Plug-ins for even better films", namely NewBlue Titler Pro 6 and NewBlue Elements 3 Ultimate.

However when I go to the in-app store they want to charge me 99.99€ each. Neither plug-in is listed as extra (nor optional or for purchase) when buying VPX, but rather as Integrated part of the Application.

I find it wrong that this is not included With my current valid Update Service.

As for installing Application and extra content, I had no issues. But not tried the functionality much yet.

I find it wrong that this is not included With my current valid Update Service.

Most other people would find it completely logical, since the Update Service covers Video Pro X (and associate MAGIX Software), not the additional of new plug-ins bundled with newer versions.

MAGIX pays for Titler Pro and NewBlue Essentials with the costs of new licenses of the software, or Update Service renewals. They can't just give them away. NewBlue would never allow them to do this, unless MAGIX were willing to eat the loss (still pay them, while giving away the software and not getting paid for them from users on the Update Plan).

You're asking for unjustifiable freebies.

The "value adds" are an incentive to renew the upgrade plan or buy the software, not update a week before your plan falls off and then sit on the software (with archived installers, etc.) for a year (or forever).

You get those serial numbers when you make that purchase. If you want them, that is what you're going to have to do.

When you buy Video Pro X (or Renew the Update Service) you will get the Serials for Titler and Essentials in the email you receive from MAGIX - similar to how you get the Sound Forge Pro and Melodyne Serials in the email after buying Samplitude Pro [Suite]. NewBlue software is managed in a NBFX Account and by their Software Manager. You register those Serials there, and you'll be able to install the software.

@browj2 - Are the issues going from Samplitude Pro to Video Pro X fixed in this version?

Import with nVidia… Does this mean they decode with NVDEC, now?

-----

Stutter when starting playback or MP4 files has more to do with the CODEC than the software being used. Same thing happens in Resolve when playing back H.264/HEVC files, as well as Premiere Pro and VEGAS Pro. It sort of "Ramps Up" because of the Decoding and Decompressing that has to be done.

I see they removed DNxHD from the Specifications :-P When I asked support about it, they seemed perplexed... so they probably just decided to take it off there...

browj2 wrote on 6/3/2019, 6:21 PM

@shgrude

Nope, that would be nice, but the third party plugins you get are only those that are being offered when you renew or purchase new, otherwise there would not be much to entice you to renew the Update Service. If you looked recently, you would have seen that nothing was being offered with a renewal of the Update Service, so I definitely would have waited until there was much more. I guess that now is the time.

@Michal-MST

I watched your video and you sounded very enthusiastic about the new version. I guess that my Polish needs some work. 😀

All:

Travel Maps was somehow installed in German. I took another look at it on my desktop, and was quite surprised. I should have looked closer before. I imported a gpx file and found that this is definitely an improvement over TRA.

I went through the videos of all of the plugins and I'm concerned about some, in particular, those from HitFilm suffering the same keyframing problems that we have now. The interesting one is getting New Blue Titler Pro 6, which should be a big improvement over the old NB Titler EX.

That says that you expected NewBlue Titler Pro 6 and NewBlue Elements 3 Ultimate in your "current valid Update Service."

You didn't mention the Travel Route stuff at all.

The Video Engine Update, VEGAS Stabilization, Fonts, etc. are included with the Update Service.

Did you got to the Help Menu and run the Content Installer?

The stuff listed on the Upgrade Page are things in addition tot he base package. These are things that can change or disappear at any moment. They're temporary. That is why they are listed under the product.

The same is done for all MAGIX products.

shgrude wrote on 6/3/2019, 6:51 PM

@Former user

I did not mention Travel Route nor Vegas Stabilization, as these were included (as expected). If you look at the comparison list in my first post, you will see there are several Products/features specified as NEW, including TR and VS and NB. These are the same as specified in the New features list in post 2. Normally purchaseable Plug-ins would be listed as free offer With Purchase as there are now with the Upgrade Product. However the NewBlue plug-ins (Titler Pro 6 and Elements 3 Ultimate) are NOT specified as additional packages when buying New. So these appear in all advertizing as Integrated part of VPX11, so I should have them as part of my current valid update service.

Yes I have downloaded all extra content, including My store content.

I think my first reply covers that.

Normally, temporarily promotional plug-ins would be listed as free under the upgrade or purchase. Sometimes those come with new purchases, sometimes with upgrades. Sometimes with both.

The other applications listed on the product page, are value-adds added with purchases. They are the same thing, except they are static - meaning you don't have to rush to purchase the program now for that good plug-in, becuase it will still be offered in 6 months. The stuff under the products are different. They can be removed or changed at any time.

Update service covers the base product and its related/applicable components, not value adds. It's an UPDATE service, not an UPGRADE service. I think some people are confused with the distinction at play, here.

-----

Can anyone say if the version of NewBlue Titler Pro 6 shipped with Video Pro X also works with VEGAS Pro, or is it locked to only Video Pro X?

shgrude wrote on 6/4/2019, 1:01 AM

@Former user

When you buy Video Pro X (or Renew the Update Service) you will get the Serials for Titler and Essentials in the email you receive from MAGI

Why would renewing (extending) a service (Update Service) provide me with extra compared to the same paid for Current running service? I can (sort of) agree that paying for an Upgrade (same price, but with other plug-ins bundled, ref my screenshot above) would make å difference. But as you see, that actually do make a difference as other bundled products are listed as the bonus of paying up.

@Scenestealer

Trensharo states that there is a difference between Upgrade and Update. I have a current paid for Update service. He states that buying a renewal will entitle me for the plug-ins. However, with the Upgrade, there are 3 additional plug-ins listed as extra when buying this (as of my screenshot above). These are NOT the NB Titler Pro 6 and NB Elements 3 Ultimate, but NB Filters 5 Refocus, NB Stylizers 5 Imagine and HitFilm Cinama Style Pack.

So why should I be entitled to NB Titler Pro 6 and NB Elements 3 Ultimate when renewing (=extending) the Update service (or buying Upgrade for that matters) when these products are not listed as extras. They are not listed as extras when buying the VPX11 product either, but as an integrated part of the product. So what is the difference between the current Update service and the renewed service, as @Former user states renewing will provide me with the licenses?

Yes, I understand your expectation that this is extra, however the way MAGIX promote these features indicate they are part of VPX product, not as extra - in the same manner as Travel Route and VEGAS Stabilizer. They are specified as part of the product and never presented as optional purchasable additions. Not even in the features comparison list are they marked with footnote. It is all documented in the screenshots above.

I would never expect the Plug-ins for free if they were specified as free with the purchase, but that is not how MAGIX has promoted these plug-ins. If you look at the screenshots in my posts above, there are no reason to expect these to having to be purchased separately.

Hi

The only simple way that I could put this is - If you pay 399 you get the basic VPX11 with the 2 extra NB plugins. If you pay 149 you get the basic VPX11 with the 3 other extra plugins (which were recently included with MEP2019) but not NB Titler Pro 6 or NB Elements 3 Ultimate.

I think the reasons have been fairly well explained by @Former user and @browj2, but I admit it is confusing.

The best would be for you to contact Magix sales for clarification.

@Scenestealer

What you describe is contradictory to what @Former user explains, as he assumes one will get the two NB plug-ins if the Upgrade OR the Update is paid

When you buy Video Pro X (or Renew the Update Service) you will get the Serials for Titler and Essentials in the email you receive from MAGIX - similar to how you get the Sound Forge Pro and Melodyne Serials in the email after buying Samplitude Pro [Suite].

But either way the NB plug-ins should then be listed as included in the purchase of a new VPX (399) as a separate item provided with the buying of a new product. As they are promoted now, they are promoted in the same way as VEGAS Stabilizer and Travel Route (who knows by default these are MAGIX products). No mention of additional cost nor even that they require a (payable - not included) license.

I don't know if this has been addressed in all of the above, but my Update Service is valid till 12/24/2019. I have not yet chosen to upgrade but may soon, should I expect to see any extra plugins?

@gmlotkow do not expect the NB Titler Pro 6 nor the Elements 3 Ultimate plug-ins by NewBlue. Otherwise everything that is listed seems to be included, like Travel Route and VEGAS Video Stabilization.

For the record, I do have contacted Magix Sales for clarification. Initial answer was same as yours. I have however answered and documented my claim as I have in this thread and are now awaiting a second response.

Please also note all fellow VPX users. From the German part of this forum, I read that all VPX installations will be unistalled, not only VPX10. This happened even when the user had a separate license for VPX 8/9. I understand many of you have more than one version installed, so be aware that ALL versions may be uninstalled using this update!

Hmmm, interesting. I took another look at the Magix site and I have to agree with @shgrude that NB Titler Pro 6 and NB Elements 3 Ultimate look like they are part of the package and should come with and update. Look at the Version Comparison and they are near the bottom of the list of Video Editing; nothing to say that they don't come with VPX11. The other 3 are offered only if you Upgrade, meaning pay to extend your subscription (my case). So, what do you see after you've installed the update to VPX11 when you go to Help, Install extra content, and get the list of everything? Are the 2 NB packages included in the list? If they are and there is already a checkmark beside them, then download and install.

Can you give us a screen shot of the entire list?

I can't do this since my Update Service has expired.

Your wish is my command!!

As you can see, nothing of those NB etc. add-ons shown! And yes, I did finally manage to get VPX 11 installed. Support sent me (very quickly, hats off to them) a link to the full installer, I ran it, it removed VPX 10 (nothing else that I can see at the moment, @shgrude) and then failed again on the install of 11. So, no VPX at all, once more!

However, I still had the full installer file on my computer, not just the download manager, so I decided to taks a chance and re-run it, and VPX 11 installed, seemingly without a hitch, and ALL the plug-ins and extras from older versions were still there, including Mercalli v4 and NeatVideo, so now I am 😂😂😂

I have yet to download the additional content shown on that screenshot.

shgrude-

We'll see in a few days what the update offers me. I have a few edits to finish before any updates can take place.

What seems odd, lately I've been getting the news update when I launch the program. I've always left that box checked, to stop it from popping up at startup. I can't seem to control it anymore, it always pops up asking me to update at a reduced cost. Remember, my update service is valid till 12/24/2019. Do you think this is a ploy by Magix to offer me additional plugins? Why should I pay now when it's good till the end of the year?

Really, I've used Magix Movie Edit Pro since 2014, VPX6 since 2014, and with all these years of updates, I don't know what plugins I have, and what the current VPX is capable of using.

In the end, I think everyone here wants a stable editing system, there is no value of plugins if the software is full of bugs.

Other than the Mapping part of the program (as mentioned in another post) everything seems to be working just the same to me after the up grade. I do wish they had left both mapping programs accessible from Magix Video Pro X though.
