Where did the key frames go for Title Templates?

pmikep wrote on 3/7/2020, 1:47 AM

Go to Templates > Dynamic Titles > Typewriter.

Type something.

Let's say that you want to speed it up or reposition where the text starts, etc.

In the old days, I used to be able to change key frames for position, speed, etc.

I'm not seeing the grid of keyframes where I used to see them in the old versions of MEP

(See the blank horizontal space in the screen shot, attached.)

The keyframe title bar is there for add, delete, copy, paste. But no keyframes.

In my old versions, I remember that the keyframes would kinda slowly populate across the screen, like when you won a game of Solitare on Win3.1.

So I'm wondering if this is a graphics issue on my end?

I tried both my Intel UHD 630 and the Nvidia. No change.

Started with MEP 11, then 17, then MX, then MEP 2013, 2015, then 2016. Changed to the fast competitor after that, which worked fine with my non-Intel hardware. Then bought a used Dell with an Intel GPU, just to play with MEP again. Installed MEP 2020 Plus in March 2020, even tho I don't like losing patches if I have to reinstall after a year.

Testing on a Dell Vostro, <s>i3-8100</s> updated to i5-9400 w/ UHD 630, 16 GB 2400 DDR4 (CL15), Win10 Home, heavily NTLite'd. Now with GTX-1650 Super OC'd. Added a WD Blue M.2 for OS (PCIe 3), Apps, Temps and Video-In. 2 Monitors. A WD Blue SSD for outputs. (SATA III.)

Key frames are not available for all types of titles. I used the re-speeder to slow that particular title down and used blocks of them to complete longer sequences.

Hi

Assuming you mean this one in MEP MX to 2015 which had a separate entry in the 3D Titles panel

As you can see above it is a Xara 3D Maker title and it is still there in 2020, the change occurred with MEP 2016 and there is no tile to select the typewriter directly - add any of the 3D animated titles and then change the Animations settings - there you will find Typewriter as shown below

Curiously, I found x3d.exe and several references to xara in my MEP Plus directory. But clicking on x3d doesn't open anything. But it could be just me - I've removed a lot of components from Win10 using NTLite and sometimes I find that I removed something at a program needed to hook into.

Update: Clicking on a 3D title does start x3d.exe in task manager. But no xara like app.

There is a url link to xara buried in the directory.

Hi

. . . . Curiously, I found x3d.exe and several references to xara in my MEP Plus directory. . . . .

That means it is installed - can you not add a 3D animated title to the timeline in MEP?

. . . . I've removed a lot of components from Win10 using NTLite and sometimes I find that I removed something at a program needed to hook into. . . . .

Ouch! In my book that is definitely a no go area!

. . . . I didn't install DVD menuing. Is that where coverdesigner is? . . . .

I would suggest you re-install MEP following this tutorial, this should replace any missing Windows files, then re-install MEP and all the extras.

Since Ray didn't see it either, I think it might be because you have MEP 2016 on your system.

I'll go to my other box for grins to see if MEP 2016 still works there and if the same app pop up pops up.

Xara 3D Maker 7 is what is used. It comes with both MEP and VPX, but is stunted in MEP, that is, the program does not work but is just there to make the title .X3D work. In VPX, the program opens with the title.

See my tutorial on this.

You can try downloading and installing the trial version and you'll see what happens. It may be that it keeps on working beyond the end of the trial.

For cover design, MEP/VPX and some other Magix programs use an old version of Xara, Xara Xtreme. Nothing to do with Xara 3D Maker.

I think I'll try Ray's trick for the animation I want. If that doesn't give me what I want, I'll simply use another Title. I don't want to spend hours making a custom title when I need to spend hours putting my content together.

For keyframes with titles, these would be under the Effects tab and most likely with Size/Position. What you may want to be doing is moving a title, like flying in, rotating it, making it larger then smaller, etc. These you can keyframe.

So, @CubeAce , I found a faster, easier way for speeding up how fast text displays in the dynamic titles. The trick is to add spaces after a line of text. Apparently the subroutine looks at how much text needs to by typed and speeds it up to fit it in the time allotted.

Started with MEP 11, then 17, then MX, then MEP 2013, 2015, then 2016. Changed to the fast competitor after that, which worked fine with my non-Intel hardware. Also, I found a "bug" - or perhaps more correctly, an anomaly - with the way the Dynamic Typewriter Title works.

When you first edit a Title, it will be in bold face, even though you didn't select Bold in the options.

However, if you click on bold, that will remove the bolding in the Dynamic title, and you can't get it back.

Underlining and italics work as expected. But not bold.

I cleared my font cache in Win10 (not as easy as it used to be in earlier Windows) just to see if it was something on my system causing this. But perhaps someone can try it to see if it happens to them too?

Hi.

I use the re-speeder mainly because I can slow it down as well as speed it up and it alters the length of the clip. Whatever works though 😉.

I'm not getting bold when first in use.

That's how it comes up for me and I have loads of fonts from lots of other programs that MEP could use if I altered which font to use but I tend to stick with the default.

Hi

. . . . I found a "bug" - or perhaps more correctly, an anomaly - with the way the Dynamic Typewriter Title works . . . . However, if you click on bold, that will remove the bolding in the Dynamic title, and you can't get it back . . . .

I can replicate this with the exception of 1 title, the Font change title is the only title which does bold.

It looks like all the Dynamic titles where the characters appear over time are the only ones affected.

The question is it a bug or because the dynamic function is not sophisticated enough to deal with the changing character spacing?

I have been following this question with interest, and so with apologies, I would like to ask if I may a supplementary question, though more in relation to the ‘CubeAce’ answer and video.

In the last few weeks I have purchased ProDad’s ReSpeedr, and in that second response, are we saying that you produced the Text that you wanted to appear in the ‘Chatham’ video, but then used ReSpeedr to slow down it’s appearance on screen? Admittedly I am totally new to ReSpeedr but had been anticipating using it to slow/speed up transport type clips. That answer, for me, has certainly opened up ‘food for thought’ and a potential new way of it’s use.

My second question concerns the video. Having taken grandchildren to Chatham Docks a few times over recent years, it caught my attention. What I though wondered was how it was that there was so little camera shake? Even when moving around. Did you manage to get good quality movie images the first time around or have you used ‘Vegas Video Stabilization – another ‘Effect’ within MEP I forgot I had?

Eager still to learn.

Hi. George.

I did use the free re-speeder for that video taken last summer but I seem to have lost the ability to use that plugin since I had to rebuild my machine and subsequently use the internal MEP version. It's not as smooth as the ProDad version or as versatile but it suffices for my current needs. According to my Magix account I should still have it along with Re-Focus but it never appears on any of the download sections in MEP or on my ProDad account.

The video.

I'm using a tiny little video camera from DJI called The Osmo Pocket which has a fixed aperture and focal length tiny camera mounted to a motorized gimbal assembly and then that is mounted to a fourth axis stabilizer to reduce bounce.

The Osmo Pocket on its side with a home made microphone on an isolation mount.

That assembly is then sometimes put into my 4th axis stabilizer (Sometimes with a phone attached to give me a bigger screen) for additional stability and if I have to walk around I use that rather than my DSLR which I use for isolation shots as I can vary the focal lengths and apertures. To be honest it's now my main video camera for walking around with. The output in good light is surprisingly good for such a small device as is the sound with an external mic, all be it in mono. It's capable of slow motion as well as recording up to 60fps at 4K although that video was shot at 1080p. It also has a few more tricks including being able to track a face or object and is quite versatile but does have some limitations. For the price though it's hard to criticize it's performance. With the video I posted above I had the Osmo Pocket in one hand while taking stills with my DSLR with my right hand so I was relying on some of the Osmo Pockets tracking abilities as I couldn't keep an eye on the screen.

Ray,

Wow! Thankyou for that very detailed answer.

Amazon is having a sale on the Osmo today. I started to think about it. But then read some reviews that say the company insists that your "register" the product with all sorts of unnecessary info, like Location, etc. before you can use it.

True or False?

(SATA III.)

Hi Mike.

You do need a smartphone to activate it and get firmware updates but it doesn't have to be coupled to a phone to work and only shares information with the phone the same as smart phones log positioning when using the connecting app. Really it's the app that logs info, not the camera. A lot of DSLR users have asked for this feature as a secure way of proving ownership of their gear. I don't have a problem with it. The other reason for it is in some countries some features have to either be turned off or on, such as the recording beep cannot be turned off in Japan due to the amount of problems with up-skirting. Personally I think this is a good thing as no-one notices this as a camera. If you look at any of my YouTube videos few people take any notice of it at all. Most people mistake it for a vape at more than a few feet away. Great for the type of footage I take and difficult to obtain in other ways. My son also uses one and can't manage without his now. There are a few other similar devices out their now but so far not as good quality in imagery. It doesn't suffer much with sun flare or for its size, noise in darker shooting conditions. I can mix the footage with my Nikon D500 footage and it goes together well. You will need the audio adapter and a good mic to cope with wind noise outside though. Also footage can be taken straight from the micro SD card into the PC via normal transfer methods and I can't find any location data in the files.
